My job has me in a relatively small town. Motel living is nice because I love being 6 steps from my vehicle. I'm a 2 minute walk to the dollar store and 5 minutes to Walmart. No traffic or paid parking. Also 5 minute walk to the downtown for any restaurants. Rarely put gas in my vehicle. Restaurants leave all their patio furniture out all summer unchained.

There are some junkies as mcdonalds has to lock their washrooms but never hear too many sirens.

5 minute walk to the downtown for any restaurants, but you'll run out of restaurants to try after a month putting everything on company's tab.

Is there a movie theater even?

How about events like concerts and festivals?

Have to drive 2 hours into the city to see any lady?

Any jobs if you aren't supporting your current company?

You'll get bored to death after a month. Trust me.

To live a small town life is to get away from all those things and live a simpler, cleaner life.

Why go to restaurants? I know how to cook myself and am quite good at it, so why pay several hundred dollars for a meal I can prepare myself?

Another one of the benefits of living out in the country is that you are able to buy more land for less and are therefore blessed with the ability to grow your own food, raise chickens for cruelty free eggs, etc.

Are concerts and festivals even worth it anymore? Ticketmaster has made it so that most of them cost several hundred dollars if not thousands of you want good seats.

Once upon a time there were plenty of small towns that were within an hour's drive of any urban centre in Ontario but the relentless creep of urbanization has turned these small towns into suburbs complete with all the problems and hassle that comes with it.

Sure, small town life isn't for everyone. Some people need those amenities that only come with urban living. For others, however, small town life is the only way to go. Boredom is a state of being that only comes with urban life, small town life offers entertainment that makes boredom all but impossible for those with wonderlust and unafraid to spend time in the great outdoors. Hunting, fishing, canoeing, hiking, snowmobiling, camping and a myriad of other activities keep those who are not bothered by sweating a little to find endless amounts of activities to keep them busy.

Personally if didn't have responsibilities that keep me in urban centres, I would have made the move to the north shore of Lake Superior over a decade ago

As long as the town fits the bill as a crossroads for a larger area or near a highway, Walmart will throw up a store. Avg. town size in Ontario is 22.5K

Ex. both of these are small towns.
Simcoe, pop 16,000 has a Walmart
Tilsonburg, pop 16,000 has a Walmart.

I like asians but the quality at the Asian agencies is awful, plus I'm kind of hobbied out. There's a chuck's roadhouse and Boston pizza, that's good enough. I like nachos occasionally that's about it. Who goes to the theatre anymore?

I hate people and they hate me so I don't care about festivals [ ;o)

Bracebridge (pop 17,300) has a Walmart Supercentre plus Chuck's Roadhouse and a Boston Pizza. It's also right on Hwy 11 a direct 90 min. run to Toronto.

I couldn't live in a small town unless I was married and raising a family.
But as I've aged I enjoy the hustle and bustle less and less so I largely avoid the city unless I wanna go to a sporting event or restaurant.
Mid sized cities in the suburbs are where its at for me.

North American small towns are depressing.

European small towns are better

Zell and See and Uttendorf Austria look like scenes fromfantasy movies/shows like lord of the rings, etc

I retired and moved out of Toronto 3 years ago and i Enjoy life in a small city (25000 people) but it gets a little boring at times but I can get out of town in about 5 minutes and hit the hiway and end up in another town in about 20 minutes

I live in your town except its now called a city Barrie Ontario. With a population of 179,036 its got its ups and downs. I live in a historical house near downtown where th famous group of seven have lived in my apartment. I have 3 cats and I’m friendly with all the neighbours even the crackheads i supply them with smokes and lighters. The festivals happen on Dunlope street about 6 times a year from klondike to victorian to veterans to merchant sales of crafters and retailers to small bands with beer near by.Air shows and dragon boat races in the summer and sailboat races every tuesday during summer time.New years is when you get A listier bands the trews played the last time I went and I literarily froze my nipples off ouch oh plus the santa clause parade which should be any day now.Theres two theatres well actually 3 two main movie cinimas on each side going north to south in the city. Then on dunlope street thres a street theatrefor all kinds of monologues and skits and playwrights and then they do plays a few times a year. They are done very brilliantly i recommend you seeing the merchant. Then theres the humongeous Spirit catcher beside centanial beach and when your standing beside it you see how tall it really is.They have facebook groups that meet there every month for fund raising. Then theres a speed datng they have every month at o donnelighs the irish pub on dunlope. The best beer ever is the flying monkeys on dunlope the brewery is right there you can buy apparel and get a tour and sit down and enjoy a brewsky. Plus take home as many beers as your willing to buy once you try flying monkees beer youll never want molsons again thats a fact. When fishing season opens theres a perch tournament of marked pearch for lots of prizes plus a few bass tournaments also with huge prizes. On maple street thres a bingo that has a slot machine section thats always packed and some games in the bingo that are played throughout ontario that go up to 100,000.Last time i went 11 years ago i won 8976 there on a progressive game as one winner i took my money and ran lol. Then for 40 bucks you can take a cab to innisfil downs casino if you like getting free drinks all day night lol big casino lots of pay outs race track in summer.during halloween theres haunted houses.During christmas time theres ice sculptures built down by the barrie sign lit up in white with large red heart by the lake near centential beach.oh how can i forget kempenfest it normally falls on my birthday its when all the artisans and crafters and vintage retailers get together and put on a great art festival along the beach my biggest complaint is the date its scorching hot that if you dontwear a hat or go under an awning or umbrella youll get sunburnt like i got many years youll need at least 3 waters to stay hydrated by the time you see every vendor and they have food places. plus theres a rib fest that happens once a year which is my favorite because i love eatting beef back ribs the sauces are mainly homemade and you can buy a bottle to take home mmm so fcking yummy lol

Theres lots going on there i recommend going on facebook looking into all the chat groups of barrie where theres raw talk uncensored on anything youd like to know about Barrie.
