Anybody out there with a bit info about the smart watch industry?

In my teens and early 20's I loved watches and went through a dozen or so. Got into it with the details, bells and whistles etc. Then went cold turkey off wearing anything that looked even a bit like jewelry, no watches period.

About 5 years ago I got interested in smart trackers, for exercise and health tracking reasons, still didn't want the "Jewelry" though so I went with an ankle tracker, then small Fitbit trackers, ending with a Charge 2.

Now I'm looking for another tracker and need help sifting through the HUGE offerings. I'm ready to go back to a small changeable watch face.

I'm primarily interested in heart rate accuracy, steps, battery life, notifications, Google pay. I know I wouldn't use GSP on my watch ( I hardly ever go anywhere without my phone), Don't want an Apple Watch, (I'm an android guy now).

Garmin makes a good product. I like the design.

Not withstanding the GPS issue, I took your advice and looked into the Fenix 5, watched the Fenix videos.

Battery life is about 1 day. I'm looking for 6 or 7, I'll settle for 4.

I assume 1 reason for the battery life being my as it is,is the GPS. And really, I have my phone on me all the things me with integrable GPS with almost every watch. Nor do I do that much map based activity. So for those reasons,.and higher pricing to boot, "I'm out".

I appreciate the suggests guys. Anything else come to mind?

I use a Garmin Approach as my golf watch.
No problems to report.

I use my Apple Watch when I ride, records the ride, has fall detection and streams music to wireless headphones. It’s also a phone.

I love Apple. I've owned computers from the early 1980's. Won't get Apple phones or watches. The enormous amount of energy they put into (arguably necessary) proprietary issues makes them too finicky for my use.
