Russia's kleptocrats have more than egg on their faces.

I presented an article from The Economist a while back detailing how Sochi's surrounding canopy was being razed to make way for venues, and how everyone " in the know" is getting a piece of the action. Problem is when you fuck with Mother Nature, she will inevitably fuck right back. This is the result of destroying the countryside and pocketing the proceeds.

It looks good on Mr. Putinesca and his cadre of moochers.

As bad as they may look, I have a sneaky suspicion that who is pocketing proceeds is completely irrelevant to Mother Nature's response.

Exactly.

Lord Vlad just got his ass reamed by Mother Nature. Sochi is the Gatineau of Russia, a shoal with forested hills, they have been stripped it away to create venues and condos. The flooding isn't the worst part, it's the mudslides that are causing the biggest problems. Don't be surprised if the ski events are moved to the Urals.

What a mess.

Sochi like Yata was until now known as one of the very few Mediterranean climate areas in Russian/Ukraine. Sochi, however, has higher mountains on its north side (hence shielded from winter winds) than Yalta and therefore the potential for ski areas to be developed.
