would be curious to know what the latest and greatest is in the world of personal/small business/accounting software?
what are people using these days? quicken? bookkeeper?

is there something that combines both personal and small business requirements or are separate packages recommended? thanks all.

Business Vision is out there and still being used, and AccPac is also used. A great deal depends on if having a Canadian Payroll module is an important requirement for the business. Doing your own payroll has definite benefits, and also definite costs.

Quickbooks, Simply Accounting are probably the most popular ones. Microsoft has one out called Accounting Express - no idea how good it is.
