Fake adds, scammers, fake bookings... What is wrong with Ottawa?

Just talked with a girl I know well. Posts real photos and has been in Ottawa on and off for over a year. Trying to get settled here. Had a terrible week with fake bookings. She was totally deflates and is a real sweetie. It made me feel terrible for her.

Add to that that when you look at LL, half of what I see is fake adds it seems. :(

Something has got to be possible to clean this up? No wonder we lose the good girls here all the time, if they get fake booked and their adds are surrounded by unreal looking fakes.

It's very frustrating... And sad really. Ottawa looking like a hinterland. Guys don't want to pay a deposit because they get scammed. Girls may need a deposit just to eliminate all the fake bookings... 😡

Have you done a positive review of this girl you know so well. It would get her some traction here with the guys on the reviewboard for some legit bookings. Otherwise, perhaps we are thinking her ad may be TGTBT.
If you have, please post a link. I am all for avoiding the trash on LL.

It’s unfortunate, but this is the name of the game now especially since the business is 99% online. Back in the gold old days - newspapers, social clubs there was more of an « effort » made to book. If a guy got in touch with you, he was serious. Now, it’s mass texting with whose got the best price and whose « available now ».

also, « 305tok » and stripper money counts have become super popular - woman outside of the industry are so perplexed by these videos even though they GLAMORIZE the industry. Woman are coming into it thinking one thing and not knowing what it’s really about. I’m not a fan of these videos - sometimes it’s a bit of comic relief but to be honest it’s not the reality of the industry. Anyone new, I would just advice her to continue practicing safe work - especially if she is travelling alone. If it feels off, it’s because it is!

Not the first time this topic has been raised. When I first started the hobby I got scammed 3 times and it wasn’t until I actually met someone legit that I learned best practices on how to navigate ads and such. Then I learned the other side of the industry from the providers perspective and was shocked by how much they actually have to deal with also. Fake inquiries, internet trolls and so on. I always assumed that there may be an angry wife or two that they needed to navigate but never did I ever think that someone would book, send a deposit and never show. Maybe it’s cold feet on their behalf not really sure.

It would be great to live in a world where everyone was genuine and honest, buts let’s face it, it isn’t just an Ottawa thing. Look at leolist for any city.

I often find myself shying away from trying anything new, just because it’s so much work and effort. I stick with what I know and stay away from drama, because for me this is about escaping from the stresses of the world, not engaging them.

I’ve heard so many stories, I don’t even know what is real anymore. The hard reality is that is what this industry is and you either learn to navigate it, or leave it.

The comments above are spot on. Use this platform to help. Build up providers that are legit. Those of us that know how to navigate the ads will find them. I could list dozens of providers that I have never met that are legit and provide great service just by reading in this forum.

I would speculate that a lot for fake bookings come from jealous women, just like a lot of fake ads are old dudes trying to scam a buck. Be aware, help each other. My 2 cents

Backpage also screwed the providers later on, they started charging in euros and collecting more money, but I still think there were less scam or fake accounts back then.

There has always been scams, when BP was 12$ a post it was less so but when they made it free for the first 10 adds then 2$ after it was FULL of scams, you would post and within an hour you would be on page 3

Leolist has turned into the same, I would assume 75% at least are scams

The things is even on our end the AMOUNT OF FAKE CLIENTS in Ottawa is insane.
No one wants to screen or send deposits, but even if you eliminate that the amount of fake bookings & no shows is ridiculous

Back in 2019 and before I rarely required screening, as 98% of my clients were lovely & showed up
Now though... 🫣

Not saying there isn't amazing men out there and I am very fortunate to mainly meet them, but the industry has drastically changed since COVID.
Maybe also I see it still working in the spa's too vs being fully indy, but I will say the aggressive clients / trying to break restrictions is a lot more than a couple years ago

So between the guys getting scammed, girls getting fake booked & dates.... Ottawa is no longer what it used to be

How can we work on this?
Stop giving money to the scam people, if they aren't getting guys in the door paying then eventually they will move on or at least be less
Focus on being respectful & communicating with real providers in Ottawa
We have so many gems here, from MA's at the Spa, OIC, Bloom, Tryst, Terb ads etc we have amazing ways to find real people

It is weird that there’s a sentiment this is somehow Ottawa specific. This is a by-product of how social engineering has evolved over the years, especially since Covid. What the online world offers can be weaponized, and any where that money is at stake becomes a lucrative opportunity to those with ill intent. The advent of AI to deceive and scale, of apps that make it easier to move money, everything that is designed for convenience is double edged. And if you’re of an older generation or not tech-forward, you’re vulnerable. This is especially true in an environment where you’re often thinking with the wrong head. “What is wrong with Ottawa” is such a naive way to frame this.

I’ve never been scammed. This doesn’t mean I’m somehow smarter than anyone, I’ve just had the good fortune of being equipped to operate in this modern reality.

this is true, my older clientele have a hard time navigating however on the upside older gentlemen typically tend to stick with what and who they know (from my personal experience this might not be the general case)

From what I gather from my clients it’s typically the newbies who have a hard time. And I can just tell if there fresh based on the exchange of acronyms « what that mean etc » But in this day an age it’s almost like you almost have to get burnt once to learn, so unfortunate. I’m happy that you’ve had all pleasure experiences

99% of my regulars are literally the cutest sweetest scrumptilicious and super generous; and I am ALWAYS happy to share them amongst other reputable providers - especially if they come back and tell me they’ve been burnt, ill try my best to point them in the write direction « you should check out xxx she’s reputable and fits the bill « .

True enough. I think I made it Ottawa specific because I've read several stories here of frustrated providers leaving town for Toronto or Montreal because of the amount of fake bookings they receive. But maybe that's just anecdotal.

I do try to help out by posting reviews when it's welcome by the provider. Not all like it and I always respect that.

There have been efforts to try to fix this. There are a couple (a few?) companion groups that essentially pre-screen girls to confirm they are legitimate.

I know one of them tried to do that for clients. A guy would be referred to by a companion in the network, who then wouldn't be asked for a deposit by any other girl in the network. ... It didn't seem to work out.

To be honest, I've never said no to a girl that has reached out to me from Terb. I think a lot of guys are the same. Post a good review, have her add some pics, then have her reach out to anyone that comments (positive comments from a member that's been around for a while). I think she'll quickly fill up her dance card.
