Those were true vocalists and amazing performers back then. Classics that I could listen to year after year. Unfortunate quality R&B now a days is not very popular and allot of great CD's don't get air play. Now its all rap, dance and pop music played on the radios.youtube is your best friend, i,ll put up Betty Lavette,s Due Your Duty. Ann Peebble,s, I cant Stand The Rain, or Candi Statons Young Hearts Run Free against this middle of the road stuff anyday....
U T O, this clip you put up signifies what R/b has become...nice voice, but with drum machines and synthizizers, it really is Captain and Tenille with a chocolaty flavour....im not adverse to todays "soul " stuff...try Shemeka Copeland, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings..then im with ya..Those were true vocalists and amazing performers back then. When I hear good music from India Arie, Angie Stone etc to me its a breath of fresh air. I welcome it.
