It is so hard to interpret the actions of paid providers, because they are also people, and at any time their actions could be motivated by cynical self-interest, or sincere feelings unrelated to money. If you always assume self-interest, like most on Terb will advise you to do, you could miss out on something meaningful. My advice is to mostly assume self-interest, but play along with the sincere feelings, just in case.
