Can a satellite cable be split using a normal splitter before the satellite box, then adding a second box so as to be able to watch 2 different programs in 2 different rooms?

You could use a special satellite splitter (called a multi-switch) to split the signal, coming from the dish BEFORE the box.

Please visit the following link for more information:

Also, there are some dual tuner satellite receivers for independent viewing in two rooms. You can watch two separate televisions with two different programs showing without the need for a receiver on each television.

Get a 1 gig splitter.

You can get them retail at Radio Shack

If you can shop a wholesaler you can get a decent one for 1/2 that price.

IDEAL makes a good splitter and can be found at most Home Depots. If you split off more than 3 lines you should consider a quality amplifer. Wholesale is about 2 bucks for a 10db one.

i have 18 receivers on my bev... they said the limit was 6 i believe, but i just keep adding 'em on and they don't say anything... i got my whole family running off my account and a small apartment building, too.

i use the multi-switch papi describes... works great for my hd pvr system

for all the other places i use a 6 way (that is amplified through the coaxial cable) at the apartment and the family units don't need any splitters, just use dual lnb's which i think they all are now...
