The article also mentions that the rise is mostly in the gay/bi men segment, and in immigrant communities that have a high rate of infection from where they come from.
I recall reading a year back or so that the gay population was starting to see an increase in STDs after some 10 years of continually declining numbers. At the same time there has been a serious concern regarding the 15 - 22 age group all along as their numbers never really declined, at best leveled off.

While I can't speak to the gay community on a personal level one of my neighbours runs a household that has had dozens of males in it, (friends of his two sons), and I have had an opporunity over the years to talk to them about a variety of issues. One of them is sex and using protection. Only about 1 in 5 seriously worry about using condoms and always use them. The rest either occassonally or never practice safe sex. Their reasons are basically that they believe it will not happen to them.

I expect that in the end the underlying problem is that a large number of people simply have become relaxed about the issue. Whereas the SPs seem to be firmly dedicated to practicing SS.

In addition in the U.S. about 70% of new HIV cases are in African Americans. From what I have leaned culturally many don't think of themselves as gay and at risk if they also enjoy women (bi).

In Africa its the same attitude, have anal sex for birth control and if they also enjoy women seems they dismiss the HIV risk since they are not gay (they are bi).

The overall STD increase is similar. Having an open sore from an STD makes HIV transmission far far easier.

BTW what is the current exchange rate and do agencies give you the exact rate?
The Cdn $ is currently around 72-73 cents US. Don't count on the agencies to give you anywhere close to a fair exchange rate. Go to a bank or get some money from an ATM. They'll make a couple of percent off you, but you won't get gouged. But then again, if you're into S&M you might like that.

Members should pay attention to DATY and BBBJ. HIV must have blood contact. Above two activities could open for blood contact. Postings on TERB shows that members are involved with low risk activities. Low risk means there is a risk. Could become a HIV positive victim as a result of low risk activities too.
