So did the USA founding fathers.
What they did not count on were political parties who would fail to uphold their oaths of office.
To be fair, they didn't predict political parties. (Or rather they really thought they could be avoided even though it was quickly fucking obvious that wouldn't hold.)

That what I meant. But Washington warned against them in his farewell speech:
" However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion. "

Yes, and they immediately ignored that.
In fact, they had been ignoring that towards the end of his term.

The real issue is that they set up the checks and balances based on the branches and houses of legislature and not to account for the same party controlling more than one of those.
