From what I read, the guys provided personal information to pimps and traffickers by sending their work badge pictures which included their names and work specific email. So the moral or take away here is, beware of intrusive screening procedures.

I never did understand why a hobbyist would use his own computer, or a work computer, or his regular phone, let alone give out personal identification. Man that is asking for trouble, especially now that they have changed the law in Canada.

My approach has always been to:

use a throwaway phone;
use an internet cafe for all communications;
never give out real life information;
if ever demanded that I transgress any of the above, forget the escort.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Do those still even exist anymore? I don't remember seeing a computer for customers in a cafe in a looong time. WiFi sure. But actual computers? Everybody has a cell phone now.

They actually still do. There use to be 6 internet cafe's within 4 blocks of my condo. Now, only one. Complete with about a dozen computers.

I agree. I think the risk, even now as long as one is reasonably careful and not involved in human trafficking , is minimal. But it is still there, and if I can avoid unnecessary problems, why not?
