The last time I saw him hit someone that hard was on that TV commercial where he plastered some guy into a huge hard window. It was a great shoulder hit.

Quite possibly the turning point of the game.

I don't get it. How could he justify that hit as a penalty?

Not a penalty at all. It was shoulder to shoulder. May hit his head on the ice. Sundin caught him 'not looking'.

Not that I agree with him, but McLean's reasoning was that he hit him late. Supposedly, another Canuck already had possession of the puck when May got hit.

I am not a Leafs fan, I'm your dreaded Habs fan and even I have to say that the hit was clean. May had his head down and had just barely lost the puck, Sundin was just finishing the check. I don't have the rule book in front of me, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the defender has the right to finish the check so long as it wasn't roughing/charging or other infraction, and it could be seen as reasonable that the defender was already in the action of hitting the offensive player as he lost the puck. Again, that's how I saw it and interpret the rule, but I'm not an NHL ref either.

clean hit

Clean hit without a doubt. Now, Alfredsson's hit on Tucker last year is another story. That should have been a penalty!

More needed.

Maybe Sundin should get high sticked more often early in the game. He seems griddier when he's pissed.

I think Ron Maclean likes to play "devils advocate" and pose stupid questions, just to make for good tv and create a disscusion. He always seems to goat Grapes, and then backs up his statment by saying, "I dont feel that way, just asking the question" or something like that.

If it was truly a late hit,
The players and the Refs on the Ice, know the code of ethics out there and would have been all over Sundin and certainly wouldn't have let him close to May as they carried him out on the stretcher
Good Point!

if it was a dirty hit all hell would have broken loose. Both teams including the refs saw the hit .May clearly had his head down!

one of the first things they teach when learning to play these sports is to always keep your head up!or you will pay the price!

I honestly don't think Sundin was trying to hurt him,he clearly threw a clean, text book, well executed body check.

I'm sure May will work harder at keeping his head up from now on.
