Hang on. This is not the ruling on the merits of the constitutional challenge. It's simply a preliminary procedural ruling allowing the Vancouver group to participate in the hearing.

Be careful what you wish for.

What we have now is more or less the right balance -- if the operations are not visible and not hurting anyone, the police let it go -- but if they start using underage, selling drugs, etc, the police can deal with them.

If they abolish laws against solicitation, you'll have public solicitation in your street. If they abolish laws against brothels, you'll have brothels in your street. If that happens, the local authorities will be forced to introduce local licensing laws, which will be far more intrusive than what we have now.

I would prefer it if they just leave it as it is.

You have no real idea what the ruling was about and what the court just did, do you, Mr Smartypants?

I believe this is already in place, but if the specific laws they are asking to be removed are things might become more in the public eye but I doubt overtly so. People will still wish for their privacy as they do now, I am sure there will be by-laws and regulations restricting when and where brothels/mps can operate. Solicitation probably happens in places you would never expect and more often than one would think, likely right under your nose from clubs and bars to hotel lobby's, yes including the streets as well as casinos. It is all around us, quietly going on and the only goals of removing these laws is to make these transactions safer for both parties.

No one has ever talked about the legalization of sex or child trafficking, they are only wanting the legalization of legal consenting adults to engage in acts associated with and prostitution.

This case basically establishes that regardless of how many other legitimate cases are before the courts, anyone with skin in the game (so to speak) can file yet more cases to clog the courts.

It is a terrible day for justice in Canada, because it will do nothing but slow cases which actually belong before a Judge.
