Task manager

When I press Ctrl + Alt and Delete (to get the Task manager window), I get the message: "Task Manager has been disabled by you Administrator".

I am the the Administrator and only user of this computer. What gives?
How do I fix this problem?

I have used this (and several other) computer for many years and this is the first time I come accross this. Any info will be appreciated.

You can probably fix it by doing this

Click Start
Click Run
Enter gpedit.msc in the Open box and click OK
In the Group Policy settings window
Select User Configuration
Select Administrative Templates
Select System
Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete options
Select Remove Task Manager
Double-click the Remove Task Manager option
Set to Not Configured

You may need to restart your computer

Can't get past the first part: After clicking OK, I get the message " Windows cannot find 'gpedit.msc'. Make sure you type the name correctly..........

Common problem likely caused by virus..follow this doc..Method 1, 2 and 3 seem the easiest to understand. Method 4 is what PDS is describing. That doesn't seem to work cuz it doesn't find the gpedit.msc, at least for me, and seems the op as well. Method 3 is good cuz u get to blow your load.

Method 1
Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Method 2
Download and run this REG fix and double-click it.

Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
Navigate to the following branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ System

In the right-pane, delete the value named DisableTaskMgr
Close Regedit.exe
Contact fav SP and blow ur load

Method 1 didn't work, but method 2 did.
For double measure, I used method 3 as well. Everything seems to work at this time.
Did that get rid of the virus you mentioned?

Before that, I had run Norton I/S 2008, and it did not pick any virus.

Try making a desktop shortcut for the Task Manager, so you could open it with a double-click, instead of Ctrl+alt+delete:

1) Right-click the desktop.

2) Select New -> shortcut from the menu.

3) Type C:\Windows\system 32\TASKMGR.exe in the command line, or Browse, and follow that path in the Windows Explorer tree.

4) Click Next -> Name the shortcut -> Finish

The easy way to get to Task Manager on XP and Vista is just right click on the taskbar. The popup menu takes you right to it.
