The DA sez:

What so wrong about global warming? As the excellent book "The Weathermakers" points out, global warming is good for two place, Russia and Canada.

So, we 'terraform' these artic regions (along with Antarctica & Alaska), Russia takes in 500,000,000 settlers, Canada 250,000,000 and Alaska 100,000,000.

That's not even saying the glass is half full, it's saying at least the glass is not empty (It's like supporting war as it decreased an over-populated Earth and helps the economy). Global warming effects animals and weather patterns. It may help 2-3 countries, but what about the other 200+?

Ever noticed how people who want to play "Devil's Advocate" are usually selfish and/or misinformed?

I am trying to think of a successful self-made person who was or is not selfish, but nothing comes to mind.

You're clearly not very smart bear
First of all, do you how much $ it would cost to terraform these places? I don't know myself, but I would guess it's easily billions of dollars
Secondly you (or the book that you've read) propose to relocate 800 million people. Where the hell are these people coming from? Are you proposing to relocate them in before whatever disaster caused by global warming forces them to relocate or after. If it's before, there's not a chance in hell that you're going to get support and/or funding to relocate 800 million people for no reason. A dude living in perptual 90 degree temperatures in Fiji isn't going to be like 'hey cool I get to live in -30 Celsius northern Siberia because global warming might fuck up the ice caps in the distant future" If it's after, well then that's cool for the lucky 800 million, but what the hell is going to happen to the remaining world's population that doesn't live in Canada, Russia or the United States. Not to mention the logistical nightmares in moving 800 million people.
I would love to see a Canadian MP say, "Well I know some people have fears about our country taking in too many immigrants, so to answer those fears we're going to take in 250 milllion more immigrants, and we're going to terraform everything north of Alberta. Cool eh?"
Right now, I would say the race for TERB's biggest dumbass is a dead heat between you and Cute Bald. He has the age advantage, but you have the height advantage (I'm assuming)

Climate is constantly changing, and has cause large migrations in the past. It's just happening a bit faster now, even about that I am somewhat skeptical

Who decided that the current climate is the "BEST" for the world? Perhaps we need to heat things up a bit for those who live nearer the poles...All the equatorials have had the good weather for long enough. I for one would not mind shorter, balmier winters. The earth and LIFE as a whole have survived much more extreme climates and they're still around. I don't see what the big deal is? Oh and as for those that worry that the sea level is going to rise, think of all the new property that will become "beach front"! All the rich folks that live on the shores now will lose their property but us poor folks that live inland will suddenly have prime real estate.

LOL...tree hugging libs kill me.

LOL- Hey I just posed a QUESTION

You're clearly not very smart bear

Even with Mad Cow, there are only a small % of TERBites (or anyone) smarter than me.

You are correct- 'terraforming' would cost hundreds of billions of $.

Dont blame the book. The reference was about as brief as I stated.

Except for the absolute WORST estimates, its only folks living on some low islands that will be inundated, with perhaps coastal areas of Bangla Desh at risk for a large population. I dont think moving as many people as I suggested would be be necessary, but toss in a few new deserts etc and
maybe Australia, just to be safe.

What you have overlooked is that EVERY solution (except perhaps one) proposed is going to cost HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS and NOBODY really wants to do fuck all. Lots of NIMBY and 'not MY economy'.

And of course huge numbers of folks would NOT want to move. But if by some miracle, it all came together- "Move or drown' might be a motivator.

Pray for volcanoes.

Yes I am huge, AND very old. You seem quite simple.;)

Airport security (for passengers) is a total waste of money.

Let every passenger who is a) sober b) holding a valid pistol carry permit*, board with their firearm.

Take the BILLIONS saved, and use it to help those being drowned by global warming.
