I heard this morning on CBC Radio an interview with the author of this book:
The Talban don't wave
Pretty intense and graphic account of the battlefield in Afghanistan, particularly the story about him tending to an horrible leg wound of an Afghan soldier hit by mortar shrapnel.
Another account, after an Apache helicopter wiped out a Taliban force attacking a Canadian/Afghan position, the Canadians proceeded to check the area.
As they were walking among the rubble and carnage, the author soldier saw a WTF scene.
He said it took him one or two seconds for his brain to process and understand the image he just saw.
Hanging over tree branches he saw what appeared to sausages hanging like in a delicatessen/supermarket, then he realized it was human intestines.
