Their stumbling block could be Anaheim if they should meet in the playoffs. Anaheim is 34 and 20 against them in their last 54 games together.

Money can't buy you love, but it might buy the Yanks a World Series win. Who needs brains when you have money. Seriously, their 3 major free agent signings are paying dividends. Are the Yanks in the market for a backup good fielding no hitting CF?

No doubt Angels are a threat but I wouldn't base any predictions on games played 9 years ago. Last 12 games may be more relevant but with the amount of turnover from year to year I'd stick with this year's results.

Money can't buy you a WS (as the Yankees have proven over and over) but it can buy you many opportunities at one (as the Yankees have proven over and over). The playoffs are a crap shoot... you never know.

Honestly I don't think they have a better chance than any of the other teams that are gonna make the post season

Do all the teams go with only 3 starting pitchers in the post-season? I remember when the Dodgers had Koufax, Drysdale, Osteen and Podres I think they went with only 3 so Koufax and Drysdale got extra games. Also, didn't Bob Gibson start and win 3 WS games one year?

Anaheim wont get by Boston. Go Yankees! As Swisher just makes an amazing catch.

My very first baseball game was when I was 7 yrs old, my father took me to see the Yankees. My grandfather's greatest joy in life was sitting on his front porch, watching his beloved team on a little black and white with rabbit ears and fuzzy reception. I guess I was destined to be a Yankee fan.

Why doesnt anyone say anything about Boston buying its two most recent WS championships, particularly that we now know it was done with a juiced up Ortiz and Manny? Nope, for some reason only the Yankees buy their WS rings.

Their nemesis is the Angels, particularly this year when the entire Anaheim starting lineup is hitting over .300. The Yankees are stacked but A-Rod is having a down year, Swisher is hitting .250 and Melky Cabrera doesn't scare anyone at the plate. Oddly enough it may come down to the bullpen. Jeter, Cano, Damon and Teixiera are having great years, Matsui is RED hot in the past 1-2 months, but Posada is struggling with a busted up finger on his catching hand.

The starting rotations of Sabathia, Burnett, Pettite and Chamberlain vs. E.Santana, Kazmir, Lackey, Saunders or J.Weaver are pretty even, perhaps a slight edge to NY. But where the Yanks have a clear advantage is relief pitching with Hughes, Bruney, Coke, Aceves and Riviera. Late inning close games with high pitch counts favor NY.

Boston is a mess, Beckett has had three brutal outings in a row and no one coming out of the Central is a threat. Yankees will be in the WS vs. the Phillies, bet on it.

The Red Sox are just too damn cheap. They could have had Texeira, Damon, if they had have ponied up. Why dont they build a new ballpark? Too cheap.

Hate the Yankees, but damn what a great hitting line up.

Pitching is good to very good but who cares their hitting will easily take them to the world series.

Now don't tell me pitching wins just like defense in hockey...Just look at their line up. Its WOW and I hate it.

I hope they fall flat on their faces again. I hate them.

You shouldn't hate them. You should respect them because they represent excellence.
They do NOT!! They have nothing in their farm system because they have to give up draft pics for every free agent they sign. That is not excellence, that is buying the world series. Excellence is building and having a strong farm system, which the yankees do not!!

It depends.

If you're talking about management, you are right. It's much easier to buy than to build.

But if you're talking about excellence on the field, then in the history of baseball, there is only one team and that is the Yankees.

BTW, I'm not a Yankee fan.

Excellence is winning.

A team's goal is not to have a good farm system. It's to win. Just like in any other sport.

You may want to do your research on this as you are dead wrong. Four years ago, maybe - but Cashman put his foot down about no longer mortgaging the future for the sake of aging, overpriced free agents. Their farm system is widely believed to be in the Top 10.

In reality, they have a crazy supply of top tier pitching at AAA and AA. Burnett, Sabathia and Wang (assuming he recovers his 19 win talent) nail down 3 spots in the rotation for the next few years. Pettite will pitch as long as he wants to and as long as he's having fun. He gives a hometown discount, pitches well under pressure and is a guaranteed 14 wins a year.

That leaves one open spot in the rotation. Presumably that is Phil Hughes, but he's doing so well in the bullpen that it wouldnt surprise me if they groom him to take over for Riviera in a couple years. Their farm system is LOADED with pitching talent that can fill that 5th spot and still leave them spares in case of injury.

Thanks for that. Wang is probably done as a Yankee with his current injury. From what I've heard, they wont offer him a new contract(or arbitration, not sure which).

They don't show any of the other teams up and play hard every night. I don't see the arrogance. Maybe their fans are arrogant. 9 games up on the Blow Sox now.

Go Jays Go !
And if not the Jays, then Go Yankees.

I hate the Roid Sox with a passion.
You should have heard my cousins, born and raised in Boston, and their friends. Talk about arrogant after '04, then again after '07.
Every time the Yanks were mentioned or ARod, the word "steroid user" immediately followed.
Called him up when the news broke about Ortiz and Ramirez. He did not seem too willing to squawk about the Yankees then.
