Sad news. Just heard that Don Adams passed away on Sunday.

Get Smart was one of the funniest show and long time favourite of mine.

"And loving it..."

Does anyone remember his series "Check It Out" or something like that where he was a grocery store manager?

The Jinx is Three

We all know that bad things happen in three's. In recent weeks TWO icons of 60's/70's TV comedy have passed away, first Gilligan now Agent 86. Who will be the third???

The 3rd was Jimmy Olsen from the original superman TV series. He died in the last couple of days. Can't remember the actor's name but he was also in the Our Gang series as the bully that always beat up Alfalfa.

(Well maybe he was #3, he didn't fit your 60's/70's cirteria. He was the 50's.)

truely a funny bit.

Buck Henry was a great writer.

Yeah, saw the "Check it out", I think it was CanCon. Not nearly as funny.
Not only Buck Henry, Mel Brooks was the prinicpal writer for the series.

Get Smart was one of my favorite shows. Really dumb humor-but brought to life by some great comic timing. The shoe phone & the cone of silence never failed to get a laugh out of me.

RIP Don

Hmmm, I've gotta veto (can I do that?) the Jimmy Olsen and Tommy Bond suggestions. Not household names in the same vein as Gilligan and Get Smart. Not in their league.

Adam West I could buy, but then who would be mayor of Quohog, Rhode Island (where The Family Guy lives).

No, we're looking to kill off Andy Griffith or a Monkee or Bob Newhart. Maybe the Beaver?

God forbid, of course. Knock on wood and all that.

Unless it's Alf.

He had one of the most recognizable voices on the tube. I didnt recognize him at first when he did those long distance ads until I listened to the voice.

He did a lot of TV appearances after Get Smart but no series except for Check It out in the mid 80s. Before there was American Idol or anything like it he hosted his own show called "Don Adams Screen Test" in the 70s. I don't think he set a record for Love Boat appearances but he came close. I remember like 5 or 6.

He had a lot of great gags on Get Smart. "Missed it by that much", "Sorry about that chief", The one that floored me was when he would try to face down a much bigger opponent with intimidation. He would swagger and say, "Alright, I know how to handle big apes like you." After tiring himself out trying to pommel the guy who invariably never moved or even noticed the blows, he would throw his arm around him and apologize by saying, "I hope I wasn't out of line with that crack about the big ape". Then he would get the snot beat out of him.

Kinda makes me wonder if there are any SP's out there that look like Barbara Feldon. I definitely had a crush on her when she was on Get Smart. Maybe I'll change my name to Max so that I can hear an SP say the way "Oh Max" only the way she could.

Do you consider Inspector Gadget a series?
