Was looking into this recently and search information is very contradictory. Does anyone have experience good/bad with these companies? I noticed with some of them the "dealer" who sells the warranty can get up to 50% commission which is why they push them so hard. Thanks!

I wouldn't do it.

Most problems with cars are systemic. Check out their history online to see if there are any major concerns.

The only warranty I would get would be the ones offered by the original manufacturer on used cars like the Mercedes Certified pre owned.

I've twice used Lubrico warranty on used vehicles, just keep proof of oil changes at prescribed times/distance, go to authorized dealers for repairs.

Both times, the claims were always reimbursed and I received more in repairs than what I paid.

Read the fine print. I had a 3rd party warranty several years ago and blew a head gasket. 3rd party warranty covered it no problem. Except they would not cover new oil and filter, some broken bolts on exhaust and other incidentals. Paid a couple hundred for these "incidentals" that were needed to complete the job. I called the warranty company and asked the guy if he knew anything about cars, he said yes. I asked if he would ever let someone change a head gasket without changing the oil, he said no. But he said (and was accurate) that the warranty said it was not covered and he was right. In other words he told me he worked for a crappy company. I agree.

I just bought a used Scion

Said no thanks to the $2,500 warranty which is %25 the value of the car

also avoid $600 corrosion package

get oil based rustroofing every year for $100 instead

Thanks, the car I am buying is a "summer" car, convertible, turbo, German, etc. so figure I will get hammered on repairs otherwise. Car is very low mileage (under 60K KM's) and just out of manufacturer's warranty. Price for the top warranty package @ Ensurall was $3,100.00 x 4 years/80,000KM's

So your expectation for ordinary driving is that you'll pay something north of $3100 per year on service and repairs? What else would make that price from Ensurall a good one?

It's $3,100 for the 4 year term, no deductible, includes roadside service. So yes I could see running into $775/year. However I have never owned an out of warranty vehicle nor purchased this type of warranty. Thanks.

I've bought the 3rd party coverage a couple of times and it's never paid for anything. Just like most insurances, they deflect, deny and eventually refuse to pay.

I just bought a new (but "pre-owned", sounds better than "used") from a dealer. It came with a pretty good warranty and they still tried to get me to buy the 3rd party warranty. There's even one that just covers wheels and tires for christ sake! Nah. Never again for me.

what is the deductible? normally I don't buy extended warranties but I don't buy German cars either, if the transmission goes you'll get your money just from that

Never I mean Never go for this type of scam, Golbal Warranty is one of the worst out there. I work in the auto repair industry and they never cover what is required to fix the problem with any vehicle anytime period. Do your homework before you buy a vehicle and u won't need the warranty anyhow. My 2 cents.

Ah. I read "… it's $3100x4 years" as the annual cost times four. The principle for figuring whether it's a good deal is the same: If the actual repair and service costs beat $775, then it is. So you are 'predicting' they will when you sign on. The only other thing you're buying is the comfort level of prepaying.

Ask your question backwards: If I insured myself with the $3100, would I have any left after the four years of covering my own bills? What would that be worth, compared to setting fire to the cash now and having 'them' take care of me at no cost?

do homework on vehicle for crying out loud

if it is a lemon stay away if they are not a lemon then stay away from warranties. If car has history of being lemon I doubt they would sell warranty that is any good

my scion would have to blow engine for me to get monies worth - not gonna happen with a Scion

Phone APA for researched advice sounds like you need it

salesman gets kickback if he talks you into stupid warranty and rust proofing - car salesmen are fucktards hate their cheap salespitches like "sale on this car is now over but if you buy now I think I can still get you the discount" and " we would never sell a rebuilt it would ruin our reputation" another is adding bullshit charges to final bill - Mercedes dealer added $1000 in nonsense charges so I went into managers office and ripped the contract up

tip - go through owners manual and you may find info that can lead you to previous owner. I found info in one car and then salesman took it away telling me that was private info so I left and called him a fool as he just lost a potential customer then found info in Scion (sales receipt ) then contacted previous owner

Last car I bought I was taken into a room and bombarded by a gentleman in regards to buying extended warrantee, rustproofing, scotchguarding, some sort to disability/accident insurance plan etc. Said no to all. He gets all uppity and says "sir I don't think you understand. This is how I make my living." Once I stopped laughing I said "sell me something I want" Was comical.....he says you want extended warrantee....hahaha at that point I said I want to leave....now. Them guys are like vultures. Relayed the experience to the sales manager and the fact I wouldn't be back to the dealership because of the experience.
