I know everyone will groan at the thought of another political thread - I will try my best not to make this one.

It boggles my mind that the common theme in all of these political threads is Powerman's consistently demeaning and condescending attitude. In his last response to me in the now-locked "Canada is NOT a bitch of US!!!" thread he called me stupid, ignorant, and basically accused me of possessing the same mentality as that of my slave-trading ancestors.

In a thread about the crisis in the Middle East, and the whole Canada - USA issue Powerman somehow managed to turn things to slavery and once again inject his somewhat menacing charm.

quote: "You try fugging with this 'slave' descendant and see what you get."

Come on, man. You know, these political discussions can get heated, but that in itself isn't a bad thing. There are others on this board that share many of your opinions, Powerman. On a regular basis, *d shares his often unpopular remarks on the board, but he is intelligent, and lets his facts speak for him. He doesn't resort to being aggressive, angry, and hostile.

Powerman assumes none of us get his sharp sarcasm, openly laughs at people, and basically told Vanessa she would be better to stick to sucking dick than dare participate in a political discussion. Seeing as how this is a message board about escorting, I find this lack of respect shameful. I don't care what she may have said, or how heated the argument gets; there is a line you don't cross when referring to the ladies.

Even though I just started posting, I feel like I've gotten to know a lot of you these past couple months through your posts, thoughts, and opinions. I think Terb is a lot of fun, and there are a lot of good people here. But it is discouraging to see how often people are laughed at, insulted, and shot down in these political discussions. At no point in either of my posts did I personally insult you, Powerman, and a lot of what you responded to with insults was sarcasm, my friend. But, as always, it seems you are the only one who is intelligent enough to use complex devices such as irony and sarcasm. The rest of us stand beneath you, bathing in your light of brilliance.

And as for your alpha-male chest pounding of what would happen if I "fugged" with you...well, why would you even say that? I thought we were having a discussion, and was enjoying the sport of what you and everyone else was saying. Then you have to get ugly, and I realize there was no sport about it. When you poison your points and counterpoints with insults and aggression what you're saying stops being credible and becomes angry rhetoric.

Much has been said on this before today, DenWa.

Some posters on this board lack any respect for fellow board members, and hide behind their anonymous handles. Therefore, they feel ten-feet tall and bulletproof.

While it's nice that we can speak our minds here, a certain degree of respect must be shown.

Good point

I'm sometimes guilty of insults when I can't take the irresponsible posts. The value of this board is that it's more a community of intelligent people than most others. What offends me is simple minded one sided arguments or simple links to propaganda.

I had a long series of run ins with Powerman last night. My own fault really, some behavior you have to learn to ignore.

DenWa, I've found your posts very well thought out and I second your nomination to PM of Canada.

Well I accept the nomination, despite a total lack of knowledge of the Canadian Political System, and plan to start growing my Hockey Mullett immediately! *grin*

On a more serious note, I understand that politics are very personal to most people. Some argue that they don't have a place on the board, but I think that the diverse topics on TERB is what makes it both unique and better than most similar boards. Here in the states there is a very very big board that rarely steps beyond the realm of sex. While the reviews are certainly useful (albeit extremely graphic and clinical) the topics of discussion generally pertain to the "Hobby" as I reluctantly call it.

With TERB, however, on any given day you can click on the Lounge and not even know that this is a board devoted to Escort Reviews. Threads about Hockey, Politics, Music - I think it shows the depth of most Terbites and can go a long way to proving that *most* of us have lives and our interests aren't limited to deviant sex as many would like to believe.

But if we inevitably get laughed at and attacked in non-sex related topics, it will eventually discourage people, who might otherwise have had something great to share, from posting their thoughts. Then all we're left with is who gave who a bbbj. The reviews are a great resource, but it's the other threads that form the community. To discourage that through scorn and pseudo-intellectual elitism does a great disservice to us all.

While I may be 3000 miles away from most of you guys, I feel like a part of the community. Let's argue, debate, laugh, and even chide - but let's let everyone keep their dignity intact.

A good strategy for one's sanity and because CNN expands 5 minutes worth of reportable events into hours of repetitious coverage anyway .

Politics and religion ....very tough to debate ....for every point there is a counterpoint and the emotions run too deep .

This form of communication (if can be called that) really encourages alot of raw emotion. Since you don't have to face the person face to face it gives people more courage then they might have normally. I often wondered if Powerman's handle is really an expression of help! He can be very hard to read.

I agree with Goober, people really need to inject respect into their conversations. I respect all those that have opinions that differ from mine. I would like to think that I could learn something from them and vice versa.

Hey, how come nobody told me troops was on his way to Baghdad? :)

Anyhow, a good debater is not someone who can lay down the best insults but someone who can articulate a position and point to things that others might not have considered.
