The Russian army has a reputation for murdering, torturing and treating its own recruits terribly. How does such behavior become acceptable in a military?

Russians are protecting the safety of the Russian minority in Ukraine that is being attacked by a NATO funded army.
Maybe for their own safety they should stay in Russia.
They were in Russia, those oblasts were grafted on to the Ukrainian Union Republic for administrative purposes. So when Ukraine declared independence it was Ukraine that was stealing parts of Russia, including Odessa, and Crimea which are STEEPED in Russian history.
Oh, that must be a unique way of providing protection by completely destroying everything where this Russian minority lives.
Thats always been the reality of war. When has it been different? But the level of civilian casualties is historically low compared to other wars. Ultimately Ukraine is being dismantled. Putin said it would be demilitarized and that means wiping out the industrial base
