This whole "Time for T.O" shows how overpriced things are.

With the SARS outbreak and subsequent fallout, the tourism industry namely the restaurants and theatre shows have had to cut prices to attract customers.

The price cuts show how overpriced things are that they can package a dinner, show and hotel for only $95.
It's sad that it has to take a medical crisis for Toronto to wake up and be competitive. Visit any major city in the U.S. during the peak summer months and you'll always find a decent package deal.

I disagree

I have to disagree with you on this one Lewd. Firstly, the $105 package is for dinner, a show, and a visit to a choice of 4 attractions (the previous one was $85 for dinner, show & Jay game). The $145 package includes a room, based on double occupancy (previously was $125).

Anyone who works in the Entertainment/Tourism/Hospitality industry can tell you that all parties involved in this are losing their shirts. There is a reason the big Theatre shows are closing....namely, economically it is more viable to have an empty Theatre than give the show away and continue to lose money. To break even, these big shows need to charge an average of $71 per seat. The tickets that are part of this package are the $94 tickets.
The restaurants are taking a major hit. An average meal (before a restaurant marks it up for profit) sits somewhere in the neighbourhood of $22 per person (factoring in cost of food, beverage and labour to prepare and serve) [*note: this applies only to the restaurants in this package, I'm sure the Golden Griddle can do it for less].
The attractions have an average entrance price of $15.

So, $71, $22 & $15 = $108.....and no one makes a profit. I don't know about you, but I certainly wouldn't be able to afford to operate a business with no Government funding and not make a profit.

Merely, my take......and yes, package deals exist in the States; in fact packages normally exist here too....they are geared towards people coming in from out of town.
