I watched the game. I only blame the Chilean's for what happend after the game with our cities finest.
The ref was horrible, pure horrible. I didnt really care who won, just wanted to see some nice soccer. Dive here and I dive there, turned the game into who can act like a fish out of water the best.
I just dont understand some of the these refs. Dont they get it? Dont they go back and review the fouls to see if the got duped? I would. Just the fact to better prepare yourself for the 2nd half or the next that specific player hits the ground like he got hit with a 2by4 across the shins.
I think if FIFA wanted to curb or reduce the type of altercations thay may happen with refs and disgruntled teams, is they have to come down hard on diving. Perhaps even ZERO tolerance on diving. If the ref suspects someone of diving, and they must know who are repeat offenders, start handing out yellow cards like they are a party favour. It would improve the game dramatically. Just like in hockey the 1st couple of years may be a transition period, but it would be better for the long run.
To quote Italy's Cristian Vieri after the 2002 WC, when they side ref kept calling offside, offside, offside 50 times when they lost to South Korea...."where do they get these referees? The village?" Pure and simple, this is FIFFA, not some backyard rec league. FIFFA needs to improve the ref side of the sports.
Just food for thought.....if you think 20 Canadian fans to went to go watch a soccer game ... to say Mexico, and got into a scuffle with their corrupt and pure barbaric police force, that they would see the light of day for weeks? Can you imagine the trauma that those canadians would be subjected too? So I dont see what the big deal was. The Chilean babies figured that they were above the law because some blind ref cost them the game. Good for the cops. If I were one of those cops and one of them took a strike at me, boom!!! right across the back with Betsy the billyclub. Senior Chilean Team officials would get 2.
