Too Much Anti-Spyware??

In the laboratory.
I recently installed Webroot's Spyware Sweeper on my laptop (XP) and main desktop (XP Pro). This was in addition to Ad-Aware and Windows Defender which already resided on them. A few days after, both computers crashed, i.e. memory dumps.

Previous to the crashes, I had tried to run Ad-Aware and found that it stalled out partway through its check of the system.

I've since removed Ad-Aware and Windows Defender and while it's too soon to be definitive about such matters, both computers have a better 'feel' to them.

Anyone else run into similar difficulties??

I've had the same problem... and even added more anti-spyware software trying to solve the slow computer issues... thinking it was a spyware problem. In the end... I deleted everything by Spy Sweeper after being told it was probably software conflicts with all the various anti-spyware programs. Things improved... but still not the same. I'll probably end up doing a complete windows re-install to get rid of all the crap in the system.

3 That work well together

My experience:
Spybot Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware (by Lavasoft)
Spyware Blaster

The above work well together, are free, frequently updated and stable on Win98SE and XP SP2 or higher. I've used them for 4+ years.

BTW, Also tried SpySweeper. Seemed OK for a while (a version 1.5 years ago), but I removed it to regain some resources.

I just picked up a Staples flyer, and noticed Webroot Spysweeper is on sale for $22.93. I was planning on picking it up tomorrow until I read this post.

Does Webroot cause problems with existing programs or does it slow down the system too much? I have read some very flattering reports about this software in several computer magazines.

Thanks for your input!

I found that if your not connected to the internet, shut down Webroot, by right clicking then "shut down".
Stopped my conflicts.

What programs was it causing conflicts with?

Webroot installs itself into the kernal of the OS.
It may cause some problems, but nothing overly bad.
You may want to do a registry repair/fix and check your system out.
I don't think Webroot is the "root" of your evil in this case.
It may just be something else.

Windows Defender might be the culprit with something else, maybe Spybot. Had similar MAJOR slowdown issues on startup..like 15 minutes? Once online my DSL sped along. Deleted Defender and Spybot...reinstalled Spybot and all is well.

I use spyware quake 2.1

It works great, I got rid of the major risk spywares, and to handle spam I use spamarrest they are very reasonable prices and get the job done, and made my computers even faster then before as it they are brand new.

Hmmm, looks a LOT similar to CounterSpy, which was amazing till you had to pay for it.
Their company was also in shit for their accounting numbers and got in big shit.
So don't know if I'd trust them as much.
Don't know much about Quake, actually never heard of it and I work with computers, hmmm...
I'd still recommend SpySweeper if you're going to purchase an anti-spyware program.
Otherwise I just use the free stuff and no problems.
Just watch what you download, install and where you surf.
