Torontos hotel tax

I noticed Torontos new tax to pay for Fifas games puts the tax and fees up to 50%. How far or what areas are not participating in this extra cost? Keep in mind, to me Toronto is Oakville to Pickering and ends where it's 2 lane traffic.

It's a grand total of a 2.5 percent hike. From the normal 6% to 8.5% and will last about one year when it sunsets. This is on top of the 13% GST normally applied. So no where near 50 % hike. Might want to check that your hotel isn't hitting you with junk fees.

The tax total rose from 19% to 21.5 % . That's all all levels are govt are charging in total.

Thanks for that. I was looking at some prices. List price then final price was 50% higher so I wasn't sure where the total came from.

Right now its written with a sunset clause from what I saw. I have no idea what happens after.
