I please someone help me.

I use Bell DSL, I don't regularly d/l stuff in torrent. Mainly P2P music straight mp3 files Which I may get one file per month. So this past week decided to download a torrent of a TV anime That just came out in Japan. There are plenty of seeders but the download speed crawl to 7 days.

IS my ISP doing this on purpose?

I know I have VUZE/AZureus properly configured to my the network because I download some small files to test it.

Any help in getting around this block if there is one?

Thanks.

^--- Good suggestion, it should make a big difference. Bell performs rate limiting based on protocol and/or port number. Usually most noticeable between 14:00 and 02:00 weekdays.

Are you using a Linksys router? This router doesn't like large number of TCP/IP sessions opened and close over a short period of time. You can either:
- Occasionally reboot the router
- Connect your PC directly to the modem (or a hub/switch between the router and modem)
- Load a different OS into the router such as DD-WRT.
Wow you are good about the router. I had to do first suggestion.
Might try 2nd suggestion when I d/l next time.
I am using OpenSuse 10.3 for d/l stuff so I will avoid viruses.

I will have to check DD-WRT for this router.

Thanks.

make sure "require encrypted transport" is selected and then select RC4 encryption.
Since I am using Opensuse 10.3 with Vuze I couldn't fins Transport "encryption" but did manage to get the files quicker. The change helped alot. Thanks for your help.

Earlier this week I downloaded the ISO image of OpenSuse11.0 using Ubuntu 8.04 using the torrent feature on Opera 9.52 on my old P2 PC and got the ISO file in 30 minutes by torrent and 20 minutes by http. On torrents, I got DL speeds ~400KBps, the fastest I've ever got on torrents. Decided to try DL both ways at once because the OpenSuse site recommended a torrent DL over http, for getting their ISO file.

Don't use torrents that much lately but was very happy with the speeds I got and this was around 5PM.

The http speeds were faster running ~500-750KBps then.

Way back when a couple people told to experiment with Torrents.
I thought okay concluded it was a waste of time. Specially with movies. If they are foreign movies which American distributor will not let us see in any way I am all for torrents. Free Speech.
But what i really hated was that people would name a few files something else which it really was not at all. For example:
Say you Want "Spiderman 3" you see the torrent and download it and proceed to get the file after a few hours you look at the file and it is "The Witch".
That is just lousy, that is why I won't download torrents unless like I said I want foreign content.
Man I wish there was a way to check this before you download the torrent or file.

xix, there are a number of sites where you can access torrents made by well established rippers and the files are often verified. I have been using superfundo for over a year and the only problem is sometimes having to wait a week or two for some new release movies.

I'm using openSUSE 11.0 KDE: 3.5.9 and installed Vuze but it won't open!
Vuze looks like it is opening but then times out with only a brief splash screen that disappears.
Do you have any idea why it won't open?

I did use KTorrent on SUSE11 to give it a try and it downoaded an 170meg mp3 album in 35 minutes but wanted to give Vuze a try since they say it's better.

Double check what Vuze runs on. Java???
have all libraries, requirements installed.
Aren't you running Suse live?

If you have a hub you have to go here

http://www.portforward.com/

to configure vuze to your hub.

Suse is installed, not running live.
Believe Java is installed but I'll check again.
I checked all the libraries off when installing Vuze.

PS: Out of curiouity just put Vuze/Azureus in Ubuntu8.04 for a test.
It went in Ubuntu and is running with no problems except for being slow.

Reinstall the rpm. I notice sometimes the install doesn't go smoothly.

Tried a reinstall with the same results, Vuze tries but still won't open.
However I can use KTorrent and the built in torrent client of Opera.

Have noticed Suse makes you go through more hoops than Ubuntu.
Suse is nice but Ubuntu is an easier OS to play around in. The help forums are very helpful in both Suse and Ubuntu for answering questions about both distros.

Ktorrent

I been doing some torrent for foreign cartoons.
They will never come to America because of License issue, so don't flame me, flame the license holders who have become to greedy in America.

After doing some research and reading Vuze [ Azureus] is a hog on the hub/router big time. Also I installed the new version for Suse it won't work that easily.
Now I am trying to go back to the previous version 3.1.1.1BE not E##.

I configure Ktorrent and it seems to be the less resource hog.
Here some link to help you.

Bittorent help

http://wiki.suselinuxsupport.de/wikka.php?wakka=HowtoKtorrentOnAhomeLan

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/BEFSR41/BitTorrent.htm

For better understanding :
http://portforward.com/
Since Ktorrent is Bittorrent this site will help alot and explain it in lay mans terms. Search for Bittorrent no ktorrent.

Woodpecker sorry for doubting you/Suse. But funky stuff will happen to any OS.

A couple SUSE gurus from their SUSE help forums have been very helpful here and came to the same conclusion, that Vuze/Azureus does not play well on SUSE11.0. After following many of their suggestions Vuze will not run in that version.
Ktorrent and the Opera torrent feature run well with SUSE11 however.

I'm seeing this also.
Each OS, be it MS, Apple or linux has it's peculiar quirks.
Even Ubuntu with all the development of late it is undergoing has developed a 'freeze-up' problem when you start really pushing it, that it never had before.
Oh well but at least linux is free and the reboot is faster than that of MS.....

Went through the whole java thing with the guys in the SUSE forums and it still won't open. It seems to be some bug with SUSE11.0 and KDE.
Vuze/Azureus runs fine and is not a resource hog with Ubuntu.
Ktorrent runs fine though with SUSE.
