Trump’s surprise visit to Walter Reed hospital sparks speculation about health-related “resignation”

NOVEMBER 16, 2019

Donald Trump made a previously unannounced and unexpected visit to Walter Reed Army Medical Center today, supposedly for the purpose of completing “portions” of his annual physical, three months ahead of the usual schedule for such examinations.

The sudden move without prior notice inspired a round of speculation among political observers over whether the visit was part of an elaborate plot by the Republican party to have the president resign for “health reasons” now that the impeachment evidence against him seems irrefutable and likely to only get worse as additional witnesses testify about the bribery and extortion plot to taint the 2020 presidential elections with foreign interference.

After Trump returned to the White House from the house of white-coated doctors, press secretary Stephanie Grisham declared that Trump was “healthy” and “without complaints.”

Judging from the president’s Twitter feed, it can be safely said that the second half of Grisham’s status report on Trump was a total lie since that social media account has been filled with complaints daily since the president first came under investigation by the staff on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team.

Oddly, one of the most prominent voices espousing the theory that the presidential physical was a sham exam meant to set up a denouement for the Trump administration that does not involve a long prison sentence was a member of the Republican Party, the proudly never-Trumper pundit Cheri Jacobus.

Jacobus explained her reasoning in a pair of Saturday afternoon tweets.

Trump’s annual physical isn’t until February but he’s going in now for “portions” of it? He just needs a an excuse in case he needs to resign and get a “compassion” pardon from Pence. @TheRickWilson @MelissaJPeltier @RickPetree @NicolleDWallace @maddow https://twitter.com/cherijacobus/status/1195818052463529985…

@realDonaldTrump getting his annual physical 3 months early is so he can quickly resign for alleged “health reasons” now that he’s guilty as hell and has nowhere left to run and hide.

“Guilty as hell” and “nowhere left to run and hide,” seem fairly accurate given this week’s testimony from the congressional impeachment hearings.

While Trump would be able to escape federal prosecution and the distinction of becoming the first president to successfully be impeached under the scenario that Jacobus outlines, a pardon by President Pence — who himself has been implicated in the Ukraine bribery scheme by his participation in numerous meetings regarding the region — will not protect Trump from prosecutions for state crimes.

For that reason alone, some may discount the theory that Jacobus is proposing in favor of a Trump fight against impeachment to the very last moment.

While the prospect of losing the impeachment battle may alone be enough to put Trump in a hospital, the simple addition of foreign exile to a country with no extradition treaty with the United States — a country like Russia perhaps? — to Jacobus’ formula for the president’s escape from his current predicament would eliminate any possibility that the color of Trump’s post-presidential wardrobe will match the color of his spray-tanned orange skin.

Such a face-saving exit for Trump is surely within the realm of possibility. If it does happen, however, expect a sudden miraculous recovery due to Russian medical miracles and a robust remote anti-Democratic propaganda campaign on social media launched from the safe confines of exile. That’s an end that will serve both Trump and Russian President Putin quite well.

Big words you are using there! You have "the best words"!

What post here exactly is "intolerant"? And intolerant of exactly what?

The funny thing about people who use big words to impress, usually don't use them properly. And impress no one.

Like the 'proceeding' tweet about televised impeachment hearings that he is too busy to even watch a minute of?
And that word isn't even that big!

I think Trump should use this as a segway to gracefully retire to spend more time with his growing family and private business.

He will leave a legacy of lowest unemployment and highest stock market in U.S. history. Two appointments to the SCOTUS. No new wars.

Bring on pence-Haley in 2020!

But I agree with you. Segway away (he'd be Grand Champion of America's Funniest Videos) or segue back into life as a philanthropic University President, I don't care.

Trump should ride his Segway straight to a hospital right away.
Unfortunately the one most suited to his talents is shutting down here, though they did change its original name.

Psychologist John Gartner: "Deep inside, Donald Trump is a very empty and sad person"
Founder of Duty to Warn PAC on Trump's impeachment-fueled "hypomanic episode," which could be "catastrophic"

If Donald Trump were your patient, how would you evaluate his behavior over the last year or so? Is Donald Trump's behavior devolving, as predicted by the medical literature?

Yes, but in ways that I think are even more ominous than when we spoke almost a year ago. Trump is a malignant narcissist. Erich Fromm, the noted psychoanalyst who studied Nazi Germany — and the person who introduced the diagnosis of “narcissism” — explained that in such personalities their grandiosity, their narcissism, their paranoia, conspiracy theories, sociopathy, criminal behavior and sadism all go into overdrive when they get power. Those traits are also inflamed when a narcissist is challenged or attacked.

And there is a feedback loop as well, where because they're gaining power — which inflames their narcissism and their paranoia and their freedom to act on their criminal impulses — of course that means there will be opposition and resistance to them. Narcissists like Donald Trump then demonize and try to brutalize and invalidate anyone who does not kiss his ring. Trump has systematically eliminated every single guardrail on his power and behavior in the White House.

There is literally nobody, not one person, who can tell him “no” right now, intervene against him. But there is another element to Trump’s dangerous behavior that we should be paying very close attention to. I believe that Donald Trump is having a hypomanic episode.

Many reporters and journalists have described Trump’s recent behavior as manic. Concerned observers highlight Trump’s tweets, which have greatly increased in number.

A hypomanic episode is not the same as a manic episode. “Manic” is only partially accurate in describing Donald Trump because when somebody is manic, they think they're Jesus Christ, which means they are psychotic and usually end up in the psychiatric hospital. But when someone's hypomanic, they become more agitated, more energized, more impulsive. They act out more aggressively with poorer judgment. A hypomanic person does not listen to anybody. They do not delay their activity. They do not accept feedback from anybody else.

This means that a hypomanic person can act quickly, impulsively and urgently, with poor judgment, in ways that will have predictably catastrophic consequences. A person with that temperament can, in moments of stress, devolve into something that is a psychiatric disorder. Essentially, everything gets accelerated for the worst. This is what we are now seeing with Donald Trump. When this will really become an even greater crisis — a crescendo in his dangerous behavior — is when Donald Trump starts making catastrophic moves internationally. He could start a war.

The Dr does raise some good questions, is Trump just lying his face off or is he totally delusional?
