I bought a little RCA tv, every once in a while the screen goes black and doesn't return till the menu is fiddled with, but I'm not sure exactly what brings it back?

If it's passed the warranty period it's probably not worth fixing...not with the price of regular tv's now-a-days. Besides, RCA and GE(both Thomson Electronics) are rated as having the most frequent repairs, according to Consumer Reports magazine.

And you're seriously expecting someone is going to be able to help you not knowing what make of tv you have, model, year, and what you're doing on the menu to bring it back, yadda, yadda ??. Google the make/model, etc of your tv and you're bound to find a chat room on it with more help than you'll ever need.

RCA use to make good sets until they moved everthing down to Mexcio around 1990. These Mexican built sets are low end crap. Stay away from RCA and get a Japanese built set... Sony, Toshiba, JVC, Panasonic, etc.

If there's a way you brought the picture back before, I'd guess there is a monitor switch on the back or in the menu.
My TV had the same thing and it drove me crazy trying to figure out the problem.

Agree , and let me say that again, THEY SUCK. Their electronics in North America are just crap, so stay away in future.

Even these are built in China and Malaysia, but with better quality than Mexico.

If that was a Curtis Mathis TV, they were the Rolls Royce of American built TV's. Sadly, while most Japanese brand sets are designed in the US and Japan, they are Malaysian, Taiwanese, or more frequently Chinese produced. Engineering is good, production quality is suspect. And RCA ( Thomson) just sold their last picture tube facility to a company from India. In fact Thomson has a " joint venture" for sales and marketing with a Chinese company TTE, so RCA is now a Chinese brand. The exception would be the LCD and Plasma sets with recognisable brand names, which are usually Japanese or Korean. Watch out for the Chinese Plasma and LCD, check the specs carefully before you buy. They may say they are HD compaticble, but the numbers don't lie.

It's probably from Curtis International. They used to be on Kodiak Cres. in North York, but are now located on Atwell Dr. in Etobicoke.

Hmmmm

Gee, you mean if you pay someone $14/week instead of $14/hour, they don't do as good a job?

Did anyone see the ?Primetime Live (or equivalent American News Show) where they brought a woman from Bangladesh to the US? - They took her into a local W-Mart and showed her how much the pants she sewed the trim on sold for - Man, was she pissed off

I WOULD pay more if I knew that what I was buying was made in Canada - Most people arent willing to do that, as evidenced by the proliferation of W-Marts, etc.

The fact that you'll pay $12.95 for something instead of $19.95 means that our (Canada & the US) standard of living, given a few years, will be in the toilet . . . .

I bought a Curtis TV in 1981, and it is still going. Luckily, there is a factory depot in N. York and when I needed service, I took it in. The guy there was amazed that I still had it.

Total cost of repair? $50
I remember buying a Curtis TV in 1984 from the Electronic Depot that was down near the Eaton center ... I think it was right by Sam's on Yonge St. Remember that place?
It was a 20 inch set and was the first set I ever bought with a remote control and it had a built in 36 channel cable converter. Wow it was so high tech in those days.... in 89 I bought a 28 inch stereo TV and gave the Curtis to my sister who later moved to LA and she ended up selling it to some Mexican family... I bet that TV's still working in a Mexican hut somewhere!
