I have a Sandisk Micro Cruzer USB key that has U3 capability via the Launchpad software on it. When you insert the key, the Launchpad logo appears in the bottom righthand corner and shows the loading status. If you are using the password feature, a popup window then appears and you enter your password. The U3 logo then appears in the startup tray and you can access the drive. If you aren't using a password, the U3 logo immediately appears in the startup tray.
Up until the other day, I was using it at work without problem. Then I think the key must have been pulled without doing a safe shutdown and the problems began. At first, upon inserting the USB key the Launchpad logo would appear but the password popup would not and neither would the U3 logo. The drive was detected on Explorer but clicking on it would just get the "insert device" message and you couldn't access the drive. The key still works on other computers though.
IT helped me out and we removed the driver from the registry and when I plugged the key back in it worked fine. Once. Now it doesn't work at all. No Launchpad, no password popup, no U3 logo. But the key still works fine on other computers.
I've turned the password option off and my work computer now recognizes and accesses the key as if it was any other USB device. But I really want the password feature, which requires the U3 capability.
My work computer is running Windows XP and is updated regularly. I don't have Admin privileges but IT is ready and willing to work with me to fix the problem.
Any ideas on what's wrong? The key works on other computers so it must be something specific to my work computer (which my key previously worked on as well). If I could just get back to the point when you plug in a new USB device for the first time and you get the little bubble at the bottom that says "New device detected," I think that might enable me to start fresh and get the thing working again.
Help!
