So I have an old iPhone 3GS I wanted to unlock. Took it to a place close to my work and was told the motherboard is too new and unlocking is not possible. Does anyone have any advice I could use to get this unlocked?
iPhone 3GS can definitely be unlocked. Many pre-paid companies are offering unlocked 3GS phones. What a load of baloney. There are tons of cell phone sellers/dealers who are able to do so. Maybe try a few and I am sure you will have it unlocked.

You might want to cross reference this since I haven't done this for a while. DL Purplera1n and follow the steps. It should install either cydia or icy then put repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com and look for program called ultrasn0w. DL and install then reboot. It'll jailbreak then unlock the phone. I've done it couple times. I've moved on to androids and it's so much fun once you've rooted an android phone. Good Luck!
