On the anniversary to the US invasion on Iraq, I think its only fitting to highlight this US House of Representatives link:
www.house.gov/reform/min/features/iraq_on_the_record/
The US House of Representatives Committee on Government reform -Minority office, released on Mar.16/04 the 'Iraq on the Record' database detailing 237 misleading statements the Bush Administration made to the public.
"The 'Iraq on the Record' report(pdf), prepared at the request of Rep. Henry A. Waxman, is a comprehensive examination of the statements made by the five Administration officials most responsible for providing public information and shaping public opinion on Iraq: President George W. Bush, Vice President Richard Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of State Colin Powell, and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice.
This 'Iraq on the Record' database identifies 237 specific misleading statements about the threat posed by Iraq made by these five officials in 125 public appearances in the time leading up to and after the commencement of hostilities in Iraq."

The report concludes:
"Because of the gravity of the subject and the President’s unique access to classified information, members of Congress and the public expect the President and his senior officials to take special care to be balanced and accurate in describing national security threats. It does not appear, however, that President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary Rumsfeld, Secretary Powell, and National Security Advisor Rice met this standard in the case of Iraq. To the contrary, these five officials repeatedly made misleading statements about the threat posed by Iraq. In 125 separate appearances, they made 11 misleading statements about the urgency of Iraq’s threat, 81 misleading statements about Iraq’s nuclear activities, 84 misleading statements about Iraq’s chemical and biological capabilities, and 61 misleading statements about Iraq’s relationship with al Qaeda."
In other words, they lied.

There is an old adage that I think applies here for the Nov. elections: "fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me."

I wonder if Republicans like OTB, muffie, and ocean12987094873 are gonna shame themselves at the polls this year. Bush and Cheney lied about the threat of WMD, so they could line the pockets of corporate America through contracts, in the process showing complete disregard for the ensuing loss of life of both American and Iraqi people. I say for shame. They deserve to be punished for war crimes.

I suspect it won't be long before the knee-jerk far right "America can do no wrong" band shows up to defend their flag, country and president. No doubt their rationalization will follow predictable rhetoric. "Iraq has hidden everything" " All those milk plants are really for secret biological weapons production" " We just need a little more time...." "Bush was abandoned at birth and really is a misunderstood and unappreciated man.............. etc. etc.

Thank goodness there is a substantial number of Americans with their heads screwed on right who do not and will not blindly follow such blatantly deceptive words from the head of their country. My sympathies go out to a once great country that is gradually sinking into the depths of cronyism and deceit.

And my hat goes off to those of our southern cousins who still believe in Truth and Honesty in government. We need more like you on boths sides of the border!

cheers eh!!

Great post d! Hopefully Bush and Co. will get turfed in the next elections. They represent a greater threat to the stability of world peace than Saddam Hussein ever did.
I don't know if we have a winner but we have a contender!

True, most democrats would vote for a plank of wood before Bush (hey, didn't the plank of wood loose to Bush last time?).

Don't for a minute think this is about lying, Clinton sexually assaulted women, lied about nearly everything and was loved by the morally challenged left, it's about ABB. I can relate, I would have voted for a plank of wood over Clinton, at least you knew where the plank of wood stands.

And, we're bleeding. Time for a Jeffersonian revolution.

Enough. Don.
I'm in Ohio; I think he'll make a remarkable comeback this summer. His speech in Cleveland last week was very impressive. I do think it will be tough; too bad it wasn’t Dean, that would have been a walk in the park.

It was referenced on NPR this morning - his point about foreign companies employing so many workers in Ohio. NPR went on to point out that foreign companies have moved more jobs here that we have lost. Not a democrat / protectionist friendly fact. NPR must be lying.

Yeah, b/c the plank of wood would be a little less dense. And no, the plank of wood didn't "loose" to Bush last time.

Nah, it's just that you weren't thinking on a high enough plane to understand. Bush is creating more terrorism/hate than he is destroying w/ his stupidity and greed. Saddam was just a pain in the ass and nothing more.

Don't be so modest. Al Gore was the happy Bush was president on 9-12-01

So was all of America.

You can't possibly give many IQ points to a guy who looses 4 debates to Bush can you? I've talked to people who know the "inventor of the internet" and said he is a poster child for a dumb rich kids who go to good schools.

And yes he did loose to Bush, even the recount in Florida showed that. It was those Buchanon democrats LOL, you have to love Darwin at work.

I have a client who is an elected Republican.
He was asked to volunteer for that song-and-dance
routine. He refused. Why? He told me there's but
a small handful of his constituents that woud vote
for POTUS43. In the recent primary his wife pulled
a Democrat ballot. She too is a lifetime Republican.
I have another client who is an elected Republican.
He said he would vote all Democrat in the general
election. They're both anti-Bush, anti-Taft. Impressive
to the true believers, that's about it. Voinovich may
be in trouble in the Senatorial election. I live 1/4 mile
from George. I like Voinovich but he may very well
go down. I like George, I hope he wins, he's a good
man. But it's getting nasty in Cuyahoga County.
63,000 jobs lost in the last three years.
A warning shot across the bow, Don.
I think I've read part of this post before?

I know the rust belt states (Ohio, Michigan, Penn.....) are hurting. I just think that as the economy improves, we start moving out of Iraq and Kerry has to do something other than bash Bush the tide will turn. Belive me, I thought Bush was a lock when it was Dean (no rational person would vote for Dean) but Kerry will be a tougher competitor.

First off tool time, it's "loses" not "looses". Secondly, Gore didn't lose or "loose" any debate to Bush. Bush got saved by the bell a couple of times in those debates and doesn't have nearly the IQ or knowledge regarding the issues that Gore has (I mean that's ridiculous). As for the recount, it was obvious that the Jewish folks in those Florida districts didn't vote for Buchanan (who is anti-Semite) which more than made up for the difference in the election. Even Buchanan admitted that.

If I remember correctly, you're referring to the fact tht a number of people who intended on voting for Gore mistakenly voted for Pat Buchanan - because, they claimed, that the ballot was confusing... politics aside, the world if full of stupid people but they still have a right to vote and have their vote count properly.
But how do you count a vote correctly when they punch a hole for one canidate and have a demographic that would suggest another? You have to go with the hole I think.

But stupid people taking themselves out of the process does not keep me up at night.

The troops are restless. Make no mistake,
it's time for a change. Bush isn't a conservative
Republican and he's lost their support. Big
government, excessive spending, immigration
policies, medicare debacle, no child left behind
joke. How would you classify POTUS43? He's so
out of touch with the traditional (Regan) Republican
platform. Borrow and spend Bush. Why should
he be running as a Republican? He's not!

Beware, Don.
Who is the only president to run larger deficits (as a percentage of GDP - the only measure that matters)? You guessed it, Regan. The president that invented the idea that deficits don't matter.

I agree with Bush's immigration and No Child Left Behind initiatives - you can't manage what you can't measure.
