I got a small USB hub for free recently...it has about 5 USB hub ports....I plug it into my pc and it recognizes the h/w...when I pug my USB key/external drive into it, I can't read it and get an error '104'.....when I plug the USB key/external drive directly into the pc, it is ok.

Any idea's anyone?

Is your USB Hub 2.0 or 1.1? Maybe you can't use your external hardrive on it by using one usb connection so you have two choices use Ac and usb the same time on your usb hub or use two usb connection the same time you can get the cable that is usb and other end is Ac type.

Very often computers that have a multitude of usb ports have the enhanced ones or those that are 2.0 at the back of the machine. Try that. Also go into your hardware manager and look at the usb ports. Click on them to expand the tree and see if they say 2.0 or enhanced. If not you can double click on them (while on the net) and update the drivers. If you are lucky, you may be able to enhance what you have.

I have a small usb hub that i use for testing ports. When i plug it into anything that is less than 2.0 a balloon tip comes up advising me that the device will work faster if its plugged into a high speed port.
