Video Card installation

The computer shop has had my computer for more than a week now.

I'm thinking of calling and telling them i'll do it myself

In order to install a video card. You have to take the older one out (its almost lived out its lifespan) and insert another of the same type. How do you find out what type the prior one is... (AGP or ...) and can any video card that is the same type work?

Also,do you have to do something in the BIOS to have the system recognize the new piece after its installed?

what OS are you running?
XP or Vista.....should be easy....

turn off PC and unplug it....open case....remove old card....insert new card...

Boot up PC.....it should detect it....then run the CD that came iwht the card or go to the manufacturers website and down load the right driver......done...

It took me about 10 minutes to install a video card. If a dealer can't do it in under a week then they are the wrong dealer.

Its Windows XP Professional.

its not a dealer. Its a computer repair shop.

And yeah, they're lame. (They say they don't have the appropriate part - video card for it)

If your motherboard has a graphics card built in, you have to disable it before installing the new video card.

Otherwise, it really is plug and play. Make sure to install the latest drivers, either from the installation cd or from the web.

Most of the onboard cards can be disabled in the BIOS

I had this problem once. Unfortunately your built in graphics have to at least be working so you can see the screens to disable it.
