What would you say/do if the cops ask you to "volunteer" a DNA sample?

1) Yes sir.
2) Hell no.
3) Why should I?
4) Speak to my lawyer.

If a murder occurs where you live or near where you live, you might be asked to volunteer a DNA sample. In the Holly Jones case, I think 3 men declined to volunteer a sample. That narrowed the suspect pool to 3 instead of hundreds. One of the 3 refusniks was the actual murderer.

In the Holly Jones case, I think 3 men declined to volunteer a sample. That narrowed the suspect pool to 3 instead of hundreds. One of the 3 refusniks was the actual murderer.

Yes, I remember that. He refused to give a DNA sample thinking he was really smart. Not smart enough to stop smoking outside and leaving behind his cigarette butts.


That was a very sad case. Fortunately he was caught early before he did it again.

If they authorities had some nefarious plot to gather DNA they'd already have it from one of thousands of different ways.

That is all good, but what does destroy mean in this case? Are they going to put the information on a computer not connected to a mainframe somewhere? Can they control regular data backups, etc?
The sad thing is that if only 3 people as said above declined, then something is wrong with the (generally) men in our population. If we all refused, then the cops would have to go back to regular police work, ie, maybe having to actually work and earn their income. But we all turn into sheep and agree to whatever they ask.
