I came across this group on facebook WEB 2.0 free UPGRADE "dont stay behind" which will be hosting the event FULL INTERNET UPGRADE on July 1.

Event Description

READY TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE - BIG TIME?

Web 2.0 WILL change the Internet - and CAN change YOUR LIFE by taking FULL advantage of it now! Pre-build a team with us and you can position yourself at the TOP of a team that WILL literally grow into the tens of millions of users almost over night when we launch the new Web 2.0 FULL Internet Upgrade!

THIS IS ONCE IN A LIFETIME - This is BILL GATES back in the mid 70s talking about some crazy idea he wants to call Microsoft. This is really that BIG!!! SEE FULL DETAILS BELOW!

Web 2.0 - a buzz-word that has become popular over the last couple of years due to the advent of social networking sites such as mySpace, youTube, flickr and more. The Internet has become fully interactive and the content is now user driven, though less than 5% of all websites online today are considered to have the Web 2.0 features and/or functionality.

The technology is being developed by a very reputable technology development team that is responsible for projects such as Skype, and has worked on key component systems for AOL, IBM, Intel, T-Mobil, Infospace and more, bringing a very respected reputation to the table for developing concept into fruition with scalable enterprise applications that work.

The business management, though never operating a "Google" sized company has past experience in business and operations management, new company start-ups, software and systems development and support, industry marketing and consulting for many top companies, including a managing member with a history of opening and operating call/customer support centers for Microsoft.

Our goal is to launch the free Web 2.0 FULL Internet Upgrade Beta Version tied into our "Pro" upgrade option on July 1st, 2008 to a team consisting of over 100,000 registered members awaiting the launch. We originally planned a goal of 30,000 registered members by launch, though have reached that marker within our first month of pre-building activities.

Our strategy is simple. Our goal is to build our user-base larger than any other Social Networking community online. Considering that youTube was purchased for $1.65 billion dollars and they are just a "website", and OUR technology actually upgrades EVERY website on the internet to Web 2.0 functionality at a click of a button, we are very confident that we will become a very attractive "property" within the next 24 to 36 months. We are not saying our company will fetch such a high ticket as youTube, but the potential is there, and even a portion of that would equate to a very rewarding return. What we are saying here is, we do have the potential to be the next BIG thing, and without reaching for such lofty claims, we will invest every ounce of our beings into making sure this project lives up to its full potential. And so, what comes of this will be received with much gratitude.

[Perhaps this has been discussed in the past, but I did a search - no results. Then again, I am fairly new to this board]

They're advertising a business.....

Web 2.0 is a concept. From Wikipedia:

Web 2.0 has numerous definitions. Tim O'Reilly regards Web 2.0 as business embracing the web as a platform and using its strengths (global audiences, for example).[3] O'Reilly considers that Eric Schmidt's abridged slogan, don't fight the Internet, encompasses the essence of Web 2.0 — building applications and services around the unique features of the Internet, as opposed to building applications and expecting the Internet to suit as a platform (effectively "fighting the Internet")."

It isn't some new program, which is what the facebook thing implies. Their "upgrade" is what they are trying to sell. It almost sounds like MLM to me....which would mean: avoid at all costs.

I don't get the impression that it's a hoax...I get the impression that it's an application that they're releasing and this is all advertising hype....

Web 2.0 is not a hoax, it's a term used to define different people's visions of the future of the 'net.

The "full web upgrade" or whatever it is is just bs advertising....

At least, that's my take on this.

The ambiguity of what web 2.0 is is what makes the hoax work. I'd bet that if you try, you wouldn't be able to send them money or engage them in any way.
