I was wondering what a good web cam is, and where is the best place to pick one up. I see them priced from $30 and up and wanted to know what are useful features and worth spending the $$ on.

My kid wants a web cam for his online chats, but if I get one, I want it to be useful for whatever use they may be handy for.
grow up the cams are for cybersex , dont be naieve , my kid had one and i caught him oneday and took it away from him .

If you want a good Web Cam, make sure you get one with a CCD chip. That will give you the best image. The CMOS ones aren't as clear.
They are good for more than cybersex though, I've been working on the computer with the webcam on so when a potential client calls, he can actually see me answer and what I look like when I talk to him.

I have an INTEL and it be pretty good, you want to have the lowest LUX you can so lighting is not somuch a factor. USB are a sinch to install.
I bought a sony webcam a few years ago and it uses an av interface card. The great thing about it is it is a full fledged video camera and can be hooked up to a vcr or tv. Before you go off on it I haven't taped any encounters with it! LOL though it is smaller than a pack of smokes and can be hidden anywhere.

At posting time this is a free site. If you are looking at the $30.00 to $50.00 webcams they are not as good. The quality of the glass lens's are not as good.
Just as a point of interest you can download the Dwyco program and just watch if you do not have a cam. You would be surprised at what some people do in front of the cam and it is world wide. Sitting in your own home you can watch a dude get blown by his wife in England if you want. But as usual it is overloaded with guys and any single woman get bombarded.
