Lets say you do a web search for.......chiropractors. At the top of list will be domain names that come up first.

Is was told the reason they come up first is because they pay big money so there domain name always remains at the top of the list. Is this true?

Out west we have Superpages and you have to pay them if you want your domain name to appear on a web search. google, yahoo, whomever it doesn't matter. Is this true?

Can someone fill me in how this works? Much apppreciated. --- Kev

It depends on the search engine... but I believe that most of the large ones operate that way

Yeah, thats how Google and yahoo work, the "sponsored" sites come up first even though they might not necessarily be the sites with the most traffic/hits.
