Dropped into Sears this week to look at the new Weir Golf line of accessories. My opinion - Sears is damm lucky and Weir wishes he could cancel the deal. The contract was negotiated a year ago when Mike was struggling with his game and likely considered himself fortunate to be pitched by Sears. The line is made in China and is of average quality only. If Sears was approaching him today they would have trouble striking a deal.

I don't see Mike as being the type to look back at this deal and have regrets.
He has won more than $3 million on tour this year, which is even more than Tiger, and The Golf Channel estimates his Masters win is worth an extra 5-10 million in endorsements. He is ranked #5 in the world.

But I would expect it will cost Sears a lot at renewal time!

You're right, he isn't the type to have regrets, at least not ones he would state in public. I'm hoping Sears will work with him to raise the quality of the line. Would be interested to hear the views of others who have seen the lineup of products.

These things go both ways. When this deal was negotiated it was Mike Weir that was lucky that Sears wanted to do something with him....Who would of ran out and paid top dollar for a clothing line by an "average" Golfer? So they give him a deal, and make clothing that is low in price with a somewhat marketable name. Sears took the risk in that deal. Looks like the risk payed off. Played my first last Sunday at Royal Niagara. There was still snow in the bunkers and there was a frost delay... but it felt good.
