What can I use to get the stickiness off

Got these new glasses. The clear stickers that were on them was no problem removing and did not leave any stickiness on the glasses but those dang stickers that they added near the rim of the glasses are so miserable. I got them off with hot water by using my nails which only spread what ever kind of glue is on the back of the stickers and using the sponge the scouring part of my sponge actually leaves green on the glasses. What on earth kind of glue is this? I want to remove this glue and not spread it around, which is all it appears it wants to do. I do not want to use a knife obviously as it will scratch my glasses and using my finger nails as I said it just seems to move this glue around. There must be an easier way.

Lighter fluid works. Just don't use anything like a scouring pad with the lighter fluid, it will permanatly scratch. Use a soft cloth, it works like a charm.

If you're worried about ruining them, take the glasses back and ask them to get their sticker mess off.

That won't work. The lighter fluid you need is for zippo lighters, not Bic disposible lighters.

Easy! Use toilet paper and rub on the glue. The dust from the toilet paper will stick to the glue, and as you continue rubbing the toilet paper to the glue, the glue will come off as it loose its stickiness from all those dust stuck to it.

I hope this help.

Try dishwashing liquid. Use your finger tips to gently rub the liquid on and around the glue/sticky areas. Rinse with warm water. Dry the lens with a paper towel. Sincerely, Jon .

Yup, zippo lighter fluid works best on all adhesives and shouldn't react with the finish on the frames. Lacquer thinners works well too but could mar the finish.

Dishwashing liquid will only work on water based adhesives and this doesn't sound like it.

Nail Polish remover will work as long as it contains naptha (the same stuff as lighter fluid).

Goo-Gone works too but not on all adhesives.

Whatever you do do NOT break one of those butane lighters. You could make it explode if a spark is created while you're breaking it.....

Try cooking oil. Just pour a small amount on, let it soak in and then rub the sticker away.
If the item is upright and you can't get the oil to stay there, try peanut butter. It has the oil in it but it will also stick to something standing.
If those don't work, try WD-40.
Nail polish remover will also work but it can also damage the item you're working on. You can use it for glass-but DON'T try it on metal or plastic.

Glad it all worked out. If these were a cheap pair of reading glasses (as I am assuming) I can see why you wanted to do this yourself.

If they were a pair of expensive prescriptions I do not understand why you would not have taken them in to the shop where you bought them and had them do it, as someone suggested.

When I got my glasses last year I was back to the store about 6 times in the first two months to get them to make small adjustments and repairs. I consider it as part of the high cost of prescription glasses. I am now 100% satisfied with my ($450) purchase.

Lenscrafter & similiar factor the cost accordingly to cover the repeat service, just like Midas in the Auto side.

The sticker thing are cheaper alternative to theft tags/alarms. High end frames often walk out the store when Optical rep/fitters turn their back.
