I must have driven by 50 gas stations today and at least 45 of them had a price of 91.5 cents a litre. Whats up with that?

As usual, we are getting FUCKED and not in a good way due to a problem with Esso's refinery in Sarnia..

If it's a problem with Esso refinery then why are Petro Canada's gas prices the same ? Wouldn't this be a perfect opportunity for Petro to "steal" customers away from Esso ?

The Imperial Oil refinery supplies to many other chains, including Petro Can and Suncor.

If you didn't know, a brand name gas station does not necessarily get the gas from that chain. If you have bought the location outright (which is some $300-500k), you are allowed to buy gas from wherever you want.

These oil/gas companies always find some stupid reason to raise prices...it's too cold, it's too hot, there's a long weekend coming, there is a possibility of a storm, railroad strike, a fire at ONE refinery, where does it stop ??

I did see an Esso station today with the price at 0.00 ! I didn't see any cars filling up so I assume it was one of those stations that ran out of gas. There were alot of people at the station though buying their coffee and junk food. What people need to do is STOP buying your groceries and food at the gas stations !

I actually do think oil prices are going to fall, to around 35.00 a barrel. I've got some 40.00 put options in case it happens. Basically, the conditions that have lead to the recent run-up in prices are unwinding while the long-term equilibrium price for oil is in the mid-thirties, which is where it'll eventually settle. That permanently-higher-energy theory is horseshit; sell calgary-centred office REITS while you have the chance. :D

Actually I've noticed the past couple of days that many Esso's from Mississauga to Markham have been at 0.00, either meaning $1/litre or their signs aren't working.

Esco is selling gas for how much (I think it's free after one of his benders but I don't know if you want it)?

Banks and gas charge so much simply because they can. Supply and demand has nothing to do with it.

Did you read the thread? Esso is low on gas, and already out at some stations, thus $0.00 on the sign. Some 75 stations were closed in Ontario before 6pm.

I saw 3 closed on my trip to Muskoka today. Went to get gas at another gas bar, and waited for 30 snowmachines to clear out because the CTC gas bar was closed as Esso is their supplier.

I saw PetroCan hike it by $.05 a litre, as they want to reap the reward of another companies misfortune. Rat bastards.

Ontario's Energy Minister gave lip service again, as he said he would watch for price gouging. My ass. The gas companies know what's going on, so up goes the price. They can benefit from higher profits as their business picks up from other stations being closed.

I asked at a couple of gas bars, and they are told Esso will have gas for them tomorrow, or in a couple of days, or maybe even as early as next week.

These companies make millions of dollars in profits, shouldn't they have some backup plan in case of these emergencies ? It seems just because of one fire they have to close all these stations ? Doesn't make much sense to me. On the way to work saw 3 Esso station closed and 1 open.

So what you figure everyone should just lump cause it won't change anyways. No wonder we pay so much for gas.

$0.95 regular today at Petro-Canada.

Ouch, those people who drive big SUV's, MB, BMW's must be paying more than $1.00 for their gas.
