I was just looking at the 11" version on line. It does look pretty sweet - perfect size for travelling. I can't use my work laptop for anything personal anymore & need to cary something for my personal files and internet access. I so wish it had a RJ45 jack for hard-wired lan - it was probably left out for packing considerations.I want the 11.6" version with the 13" battery life.
Nice to see more small notebooks on the market as I see no need for a 4lb+ notebook, my desktop is my primary machine.
Here's another comment I just re-read on Engadget.
"same 4mb cache, same memory controller/bus speed, same 32nm process. all it has done was increase clock speed which doesn't do crap to increase overall performance.
Any real performance increase comes from increasing cache sizes to lower cache misses, and from better memory buses to lower the penalty for these misses".
So basically all hype for increasing things that really don't do much, but look and sound good to those who don't know any better.
It's this mentality from Apple that holds me off from purchasing anything from them.
Yeah the no RJ45 is probably the biggest letdown to me as well. I'd like to see the 11.6" beside a pad of letter sized paper to see a size comparison.I was just looking at the 11" version on line. I'm sure you can get a USB doggleYeah the no RJ45 is probably the biggest letdown to me as well. I'd like to see the 11.6" beside a pad of letter sized paper to see a size comparison.
I must admit I too was disappointed that there was no RJ45 jack. IMO this was clearly a mistake!Yeah the no RJ45 is probably the biggest letdown to me as well.
It doesn't have a SSD drive. It uses flash memory, similar to the iPhone and iPod Nano. I wonder if that memory is faster than SSD's.With the SSD drive it will boot fast, hibernate quickly and start applications quickly.
They're worth 2¢ like yours? The point was for the value (and in this thread for example, the lack of RJ45) the price you're paying is for what exactly? 2-inches less and an SSD drive for booting faster? All these comments from nobodies on engadget, what are they worth? Anybody who is 14 years old and knows a little about computers could have known that by reading the specs.
The target market is not for people looking for a high performance notebook. I don't know of any notebooks of similar size that would be suitable for video editing etc. With the SSD drive it will boot fast, hibernate quickly and start applications quickly.
I really like the look of it.I was just looking at the 11" version on line. It does look pretty sweet - perfect size for travelling.
The envy is 5 lbs! Not light at all. More of a MBP competitor. I would buy/build a notebook without SSD now, after having one there is no comparison. They're worth 2¢ like yours? HP Envy that comes with a Core i5 and a dedicted ATI video card with 1G RAM?
Too bad the Envy i7 only gets 2 hours battery life and the i5 model not much better. Its like 2004 all over again. Talk about chasing specs vs actual engineering. HP needs to get a clue.Well I suppose that clarifies what you're paying substantially more for then, lighter weight and a different OS. lol![]()
