Over the years I've tried all kinds of consumer grade automotive rim cleaners and none have really impressed me that much. You still have to scrub the heavy grime I have found.

Is there any spray on rim cleaner that can remove the grime build up on the inner lip of the rim behind the spokes that can't be reached by hand?

The rims on my vehicles are cast aluminum (clear coated I think).

I was just thinking the same thing. I have a couple of the "bargain brand" rim cleaners, and although they do get some of the surface grime and brake dust, they dont really cut through the layers.

I'll probably just google it and see what some automotive sites recommend.

I've tried Mothers and Armourall and they both suck.

I found that what worked best was to spray the shit on, don the rubber gloves (seriously required) and then use those greed scrubbing pads that you can buy at CTC for cleaning pots and pans and just use some elbow grease.

If your wheels are badly stained, the damage is permanent.

You can prevent rim staining by using a moist wipe after every bowel movement. This will ensure that the area remains clean and stain free.
Baby wipes can work if you have some handy but you can't flush them. Cottonelle Moist Wipes are probably a better choice since they are flushable. You don't have to worry about clogging your plumbing.

NO!! Simple Green is extremely harsh and will most likely strip any coating you have on the wheel, as well as discolor any exposed (non-coated) metal. I learned the hard way on a set of expensive BBS rims!!
my bad if your rims are clear coated, its great,
I am curious about using special cleaners, in the tool and die side of things there are special spray on cleaners that are residue free and safe for delicate polished surface. similar to brake cleaner but designed with specific purpose.

Degreaser.

Go to the big box hardware store and get a a degreaser. I get mine at Rona, it cost 9.99 a gallon jug. Just wipe or spray it on and let it work on the wheel while you are wiping or spraying the other wheels, when you have done the last one come back to the first one and spray it off. If it is realy coated with crud you may have to wipe iwth a cloth. Try it, you will be surprised.

PS. Degreaser works great to remove grease on yiur car before waxing too. Do one panel at a time and spray with water. Do not leave it on your car too long. ( max. minute or two )
