- That foam stuff in a spray can (worked for me)

- Boiling water (low cost)

- Gasoline and a match (most entertaining).

OK. I'll be the serious one. I learned how when i had kids running around in the yard and peticides were a no-go. mix a bucket of water with dish soap. just a squirt. open up the hill with a shovel. pour it in. open it up in a few spots so the soap gets as deep and everywhere as possible. repeat in a week. should do it.

Does the soap kill them I just assumed they would make a nest beside the present one ; if they were not killed .
I have seen where bears have moved a stone to get at the ants. And they just build another nest under the spot where the stone in now.

Boil a lot of water, then pour the water on the ant colony. It is important to make sure that the water will still be at least 160 to 170 degrees when it reaches the queen ant to destroy the ant nest.

Dig the ant nest out. This is a very effective way to get rid of the ant nest. Make sure to do this is in the morning to get the majority of the ants.

Use cinnamon. Although it sounds strange but if you surround the ant nest with cinnamon, ants will quickly retreat.

Put out a uncooked bowl of cream of wheat next to the colony. The ants will eat it. As the food is digested it expands. This causes the ants' stomachs to explode and kill the ant.

Throw the death ray on them!

I will tell you where to get a death ray device, but you must promise to use it for good and not evil. ( other than killing the ants )

Classified information : You can get a death ray device at the dollar store, under the code name

Magifying glass

soap kills a lot of insects br disrupting their exo-skelaton. something like that. earwigs die in no time. i call it the 5-inch killer. if you spray or get some soapy water on an earwig, it will crawl usually only a couple of inches, then it's dead. when we have bad infestations of those things, i pour buckets all around the foundation. works like a dream. try it. or try bleach. try something. this is easy.

You could get some diatomaceous earth. It is a fine powdery substance made up of ground diatoms. Microscopically this powder looks like glass, or razors. When any insect with an exoskeleton or waxed coating walks on or through it, it makes scratches on the insect and the damage results in the dehydration and ultimate demise of the insect. It works on earwigs, ants, fleas, beetles, arachnids...most insects, in fact. You can buy it at any home hardware and it is very cheap, safe around children and pets, completely non toxic and environmentally safe.

I have used it with great success. My girlfriend spread some in cracks along her pool area, and they did not see an earwig for six weeks; their infestation was fairly severe too.

I agree. We pour the stuff around our cottage to stop ant infestations.

gasoline is the most immediate and effective. Don't be shy with the gas, let is get deep in the ground then light it.

As already mentioned Boric Acid and/or Diatomaceous Earth.

That said why do you want to kill the ants? Are they (alien) European Red Ants that bite and sting or what? If they are normal old North American Wood Ants what's the problem?
