http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/technol...is-upset-about-apples-new-messaging-features/

For those of you who don’t use WhatsApp, Apple just added features that WhatsApp users have been able to use all along. WhatsApp users could always record audios and videos, and share location data easily through messages.

WhatsApp has more than 500 million users. Apple’s intention is clear–it wants all iPhone users to use its in-house app, instead of downloading and using other app, such as WhatsApp–which was purchased by Facebook for $19 billion, Snapchat, Facebook Messenger, and WeChat.

Yes, but, what's more funny is, apple road on the coat tails it seems on a lot of other people's ideas. Nothing innovative other than over inflating the price of their toys, fantastic marketing team and a herd of sheep.

Get my drift Moot? ;)

All these companies make ton of money from advertising - facebook, google. Only Apple makes money from selling products, but they know their margins will get lower and lower into the future, so they are desperate to jump on the advertising bandwagon, but it's not working.

Mobile advertising is a fraction of web, where Google and Facebook rule.

Mobile ads will be grater than web. It's only matter of time. I publish apps with free ads and I can tell you admob is dozens times better than iAd in terms of revenue generation.

Even on ios apps, I use admob and gave up on iAd, which only fills 6% of time.

I'm sure Google has a much better tool/service, it's the core of their business. Differnce between will be and is - today web is much greater:

I'm not arguing that Mobile won't be important, it's just a small fraction today. What do you think the effect will be of apps vs browser on mobile - apps I use rarely have ads where as all my browsing is polluted with them.

The future of advertising is on mobile not desktop. It took more than a decade for web ads to overtake print and tv ads, it will take some time for mobile to overtake web ads. I'm not so concerned about today, as I'm more intersted in future.

Of course you're not arguing, you're slowly starting to flip-flop again when someone opens your eyes. .....in this case, someone who is a developer. lmao

Actually I made my point, mobile ads are less than 20% of revenue - no flip flop just using data to prove my point. I never said mobile wouldn't be important, I said "Mobile advertising is a fraction of web, where Google and Facebook rule" which is true.

And George who is a developer taught you with a graph and personal experience where it's headed and how iAds pale in comparison to AdMob. lol

I think class is over though, so you're done here.

What do you think is driving this growth - more smartphone, how they are used or both? I get served very few ads on apps I use, browser is about the same.

Do you think Facebook is screwed if advertising moves mobile?

More information can be gathered from mobile devices, like location, phone calls, text messages, can be used to increase conversion rates in ads. Mobile ads on average pay 20x that of web advertising for the same number of impressions.

High end mobile device penetration is still low today - which explains the why mobile still just a fraction of web advertising. Also expensive 4G data plans - compared to home internet. And then, there is also force of habit. In 5 years, when 80% population have access to mobile internet and high quality tablets and smartphones, desktops will be only used as workstations. In India for example, the percentage of people with only mobile devices and no laptops or desktop computers is greater than developed countries - this is because computer penetration was already low to start with, and many people find computer unnecessary, since cheaper Android tablets browse, watch youtube, play games, all the common tasks. It's only the force of habit that still keeps many people to their computers not switching to mobile devices.

My team is working with several banks around the world on location based offers presented on smartphones. Takes advantage of location as well as propensity and merchant relationships.

It is I think lost on many how many of today's smartphone users on Android don't have data plans.
