I second that. Also you can see Jasper, and the Columbia Icefileds. The Icefields is actually a huge ice glacier. I went there back in the late 80's so much probably has changed but hopefully they're still beautiful.

If you are a nature buff...Banff is the place you need to see. Lots to do, lots to see.

If you want citylife...Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto.

If you want Indians and booze, Winnipeg...lol

Seriously, knowing what I know of this great country of ours...I'd say go to Banff. It's about an hour outside Calgary (a pretty cool city). Just be forewarned, unless they are experiencing a chinook (warm air from the mountains, or something like that), that part of Canada can be very cold as well...as in -20 - 30

There are lots of things to see and do in Canada in the winter, as stated, it depends on what you like to do.

Banff is awesome but boring as shit in the winter if you don't ski....
Quebec City is a beautiful place and lots to see and do, especially during their winter carnival.
If you like the mountains WHistler/Blackcomb is also a great place but more to do if you don't ski.
Vancouver is also a great city.

If you like the outdoors in winter and aren't a skier there are snowmobile packages that come with everything you need and can take you from say huntsville to Ottawa or further. Supposedly there is a trail that goes from Labrador all the way to Vancouver but don't quote me on that. But hey, we don't have much snow yet so that might be out.

Depending on how much time you have one of those Bonavista train tours of canada are supposed to be awesome. That's where you get a private room and travel all the way from Toronto to Vancouver.

If I had 4 or 5 days off I'd hit montreal in a heartbeat. Depending on how old you are the bars/restaurants/sp's are amazing but I found that many of the clubs were geared towards 30somethings.

This land is our land...

It's not right season now but if you have 5+ days, drive from BC to T.O. The highlight is the B.C. to Calgary portion as others have written. It's a life experience.

It's very pricey but supposedly worth it. Valarie P.'s travel show often rerun on the Travel channel.

What do you want to do?

Do you want to stop and smell the roses.. or just drive by and see things?

Are you fit? Are you into the outdoors (hiking / fishing)?

Whether or not you are an outdoors person... you will love the rockies. If you have not seen them, they are breathtakingly beautiful, to drive through.

If you drive west from Ont, take the northern route, through Edmonton to Jasper as the drive into the rockies from Hinton is much more impressive than the drive from Calgary into the mountains

Jasper, down the Icefields Parkway to Banff, stopping at Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Athabasca Falls & Maligne Lake.. there are many other places to stop, things / wildlife to see. In Jasper, you may want to take the tram up Whistler's Mountain & Sulphur Mountain, especially if it is a clear day.. Allow 2-3 days to go from Jasper to Banff.

Before going to Banff that you may want to follow the Yellowhead to Mt Robson.

Banff is an awesome town!!.. so many good restaurants & bars. I love the Rose & Crown on the weekends (usually good live entertainment).. Wild Bill's... the Magpie & Stump.. and for cheap eats... Tommy's Neighbourhood Pub. You must dine at the Grizzly House & Bumpers & have breakfast at Craig's.

After Banff, I would drive down Hwy 22 in AB, through the foothills & old western towns to the Crowsnest Pass and go west on #3, the Crowsnest Highway, through Fernie, Cranbrook, Nelson & Osoyoos (Canada's only arid desert). I would then recommend that you drive up through Penticton, Kelowna & Vernon to Hwy 1 & go west to Vancouver. On the way to Vancouver, you may want to stop and see Hell's Gate

In Vacouver.. Stanley Park ( not as many trees now!!).. the beaches, Gastown, Capilano Suspension Bridge, Lynn Valley Park, Grouse Mountain, White Rock.

Then you may want to take the ferry over to the Island to Victoria & drive up the Malahat on the way to Nanaimo. Once there, I recommend going west to Tofino before catching the ferry back to North Vancouver.

After that, if you were a Beachcombers fan, you may want to jump on another ferry in Horshoe Bay to go to the Sunshine Coast.. if not.. just drive north on the Sea to Sky Hwy. You may want to stop and drive up Cypress Mountain, and stop at the 2 waterfalls (Shannon Falls & Brandywine Falls) on the way to Whistler. Maybe you will want to stop in Squamish and do some rock climbing on the Chief.

If it is summer, Whistler Village has some great restaurants & you can take the tram up Whistler Mountain.. and hike to the top if you choose. If you are into mountain biking, Whistler is one of the busiest places in the summer for that.

When you are done in Whistler, drive north to Lillooet then #12 to Lytton, up to Cache Creek (this is one of my favourite areas).. and east to Kamloops, and take the Transcanada Hwy back to Banff, past Shushwap Lake, though Revelstoke, the Roger's Pass & Golden

There are many places to stop along the way.. many beautiful things are a 2-3km hike from the road

Whether it is winter or summer... BC / AB is a very beautiful place.. I love it in both seasons.

If it is late spring / summer you may want to stop in Lytton & do some white water rafting on the Thompson River at Kumsheen Resort.... or on the Athabasca River, near Mt Robson.

I may be a little biased as I am a westerner, but I did spend most of my life in Ontario & fell in love with the mountains and the ocean when I drove west.

I also love the east coast.. NB / NS.. the Bay of Fundy, Peggy's Cove, Halifax... one day I hope to see PEI & Newfoundland.. and the Yukon

So many things to see & do.. yet so little time. I want to see it all!

If you have a lot of time this month off, I suggest you hop on the GO TRAIN and visit Canada, that way, you'll be able to view Canada's beautiful scenery on-the-go. That way, you won't waste your time in a set place where next time you'll say, "I should've.....I could've......" and rather, "I'm gald I did"

Montreal used to be a good party town but it’s seemed conservative last time I went Lots of Night Life if that is what you’re looking for.

This time of year, there are only 3 places in Canada worth visiting.

1. Quebec City for the Carnival
2. BC for its beauty and moderate winter climate. I recommend a couple days in Vancouver, then a trip to the Island (Victoria, Tofino)
3. The Rockies for some incredible and affordable skiiing.

Travel wise, QC is the cheapest to get to from TO. Accommodation wise, the Banff hotels are super cheap this time of year. Have fun.

If you are into Winter sports, there's the Rockies and BC; and also Quebec - the Mt. Tremblant vicinity.

If you aren't into winter sports, the rest of Canada is rather dreary.

Victoria would have the most moderate climate, but there isn't a whole heck of a lot to do there. It's too cold for outdoor hiking (unless you know how to prepare for it).

Vancouver is almost as mild.

Forget sightseeing in the Rockies this time of year - it's skiing or nothing there.

Quebec City is worth a peak (but is overrated). Montreal is way overrated.

My favourite town - St. John's, Newfoundland is darn cold this time of year. Weather is bad there too.

Bottom line - if you aren't into winter sports, I'd rethink the "keep it in Canada" line.

GO Train may be ok.. if you want to limit yourself to the GTA

Winter is one of the best times for sightseeing in the rockies... if you are properly equipped (clothing, etc)

I recommend visiting the Johnston Canyon near Banff in the winter as well as Lake Louise & Johnson Lake on the Minnewanka Loop

If you have seen the mountains in the summer.. it is a different world once covered by a thick blanket of snow & ice.

Plenty to see and do in the winter besides skiing... There is also snowshoeing & snowmobiling.. hiking.. ice climbing

The Rockies are great in the summer, but I enjoy them more in the winter. I ski.. but I also do much more.

btw.. It is a record year for snowfall in Whistler.. more than 877cm this year, and the season is only 1/2 over!!

Wacky winter thus far.

Carnival & Winterlude is questionable for timebeing with not enough snow & cold. Both are highly recommended. Especially skating on Rideau canal when & if it freeze over.

Parts of BC had record cold & snow fall.

Careful driving Rockies subject to changing weather. Especially the cold last week.
