Who is White?

I am puzzled by a thread in the Incall section, where there seem to be universal agreement that a person of spanish descent is non-white.

I am myself convinvced that all europeans qualify as "whites", but I thought I should ask for the opinion of the participants in this forum, where questions of race regularly are surfacing.

Is there a new definition of "white" meaning someone with blue eyes and blond hair?

I’ve seen American affirmative action forms and the like, that list Hispanic as a visible minority. Thus, I assume posters in the incall section are just following American usage. Also, recently I’ve come across some empirical papers on American crime rates that split criminals up as white, black and Hispanic. I suspect that most Canadians would lump them in as white, but you would have to do a survey to find verify this suspection.

I have heard that Spanish people (from the country of Spain) are frustrated with the term "Hispanic" and how that term lumps them in with the Latin American regions of Central America and northern parts of South America.

IIRC, they very much take offense to that. If I'm not mistaken, "Hispanic" is supposed to refer to Spaniards, as opposed to Mexicans.

Spaniards, as well as Brazilians, Argentinians, etc. consider themselves European whites. Or at least that's the impression I got.

Why is it that when blacks talk of black power, or the indians that native pride ( whatever) mumbo jumbo people accept that as a good thing.

When a white male speaks proudly of what they have accomplished it is view as supremacist and therefore bad.

No apologies here, if you don't like it then emulate some other culture, speak another language , don't use the fruits of our enterprise or just learn to live with it.

Neither, the danes played in parts of England before the country was united. To have held dominance over a few scattered tribes does not allow one to lay claim to being "rulers of England" as there was no unified country at that time. An example of "Rulers of" would be Great Britain in the 1800's as Rulers of the World. See the difference.


If it helps you compensate for present day inadequacies to hold this distorted view then please continue, it seems to be a crutch that is working for you.
