This is a very important thread for around here and should be made a sticky.

Coming into contact with the bodily fluid of someone who has this can spread it.

Don't expect the Canadian government to do anything about it until it is too late. The Canadian press has not given this nearly enough coverage yet.

Canada is the only country outside of Asian that has had people die from this. What is worse is they don't even know how its spread. If you get it you don't improve and there is no treatments for it. Read or watch the news then make your own decisions.

Until they do find away to treat it, or all the carriers at present die off, I wouldn't be swapping fluids with anyone that you can't be certain they haven't come into contact with someone who has had this.

Also, anyone who has travelled to Asia in the last little while is being told to be vigilent for the symptoms.

You can find them on any newspapers website now. Or at the link provided at the top of this thread. According to the news reports I have watched earlier this morning, governments are recommending that people cancel or seriously rethink any non-essential travel to Asia (except for Japan so far).

If you're implying not to swap fluids with a SP because you're concerned about catching this condition, then you need to rethink your approach to hobbying in regards to this matter.

Those health care workers became infected through airborne transmission, not bodily fluids. Your statement should have said, don't be swapping AIR with anyone etc... I think it would be hard to have a session with a SP without doing so.

Are you going to quit the hobby until they find a cure?

I read it on of the news reports on this topic suggesting that coming into contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person can spread the disease. If it was only airborne they would be telling people to wash their hands either.

From the WHO and CDC copied from CNN.com

HEALTH WARNING:
The World Health Organization alerts travelers to be aware of the symptoms, which include:
People presenting after February 1 with a history of fever greater than 38 C (100.4 F) AND one or more respiratory symptoms including cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing AND
One or more of the following:
Close contact with a person who has been diagnosed with SARS. Close contact means having cared for, having lived with, or having had direct contact with respiratory secretions and body fluids of a person with SARS.
Recent history of travel to areas reporting cases of SARS.
Probable cases are defined as:
A person with chest x-ray findings of pneumonia or Respiratory Distress Syndrome OR
A person with an unexplained respiratory illness resulting in death, with an autopsy examination demonstrating the pathology of Respiratory Distress Syndrome without an identifiable cause.

Note the area I bolded. Im not saying anything like stop doing what you do till they find a cure. Just until they figure out who is at risk and who isn't it. Right now the organizations involved are using the old logic of witholding information avoids panic. Rather than telling the whole truth from the beginning.

Could be a terrorist attack
I've heard that on the American Media but there only. I've read all all of the TO based papers this morning, CNN, MSNBC, the WHO webstie and the Yomiuri Daily paper out of Japan and everyone is using the same quote.

The WHO and CDC are keeping an "open mind" to all possibilites.

Soon we can blame terrorists for dandruff and bad breath too.

I saw somewhere on TV last night that the mortality rate is about 1/20. That is very high. Anyone not completely healthy or an older person with this thing is in serious danger.
