Why do computers need a battery?

I have a laptop now, but when I had a desktop(?), I had to get the battery replace because it wouldn't turn on. But I am curious, what do they need a battery for if they are plug in anyways?

maybe battery was not the correct term that i remembered. But I believe it's the part that the electrical plug attaches to in the back of the computer tower. So I guess it wasn't a battery that I had replaced. Either way, don't go with MDG, lession learned.

The Bios Settings are typically stored in NVRam, or Non-Volitile Ram no battery required, The Battery is to keep the System Clock (time/date) functioning while the PC is powered off...

Go with Asus Motherboards for quality and stability... MDG sucks...

That would be the Power supply, not the battery. It transforms the electricity from the outlet into a form usable by your computer. And yes, MDG (and any similar seller) sucks.

Check out the "new system" thread.
