wife is bugging me to give her my password to access my personal bank account. Alternative way to cover cash trail for hobby?

This sounds like a shit test. Actually, it is a shit test.

If she wants to feel more safe, then do what I do. Wifey and I have a joint account which I feed from an account that only I can access. Several years ago she chose to stop working. I did not object. But I have told her many times, her job is to take care of me. Part of taking care me means keeping my stomach full, and my testes empty. She spends her days volunteering at a variety of places. And I will stay as long as she takes care of me. So her security is to take care of me. Quite similar to job security.

If she is good at investing, as she claims to be, then she can tell you what to buy and what to sell, and you can do the transaction, with your own account, and your own password.

Most importantly is to stand your ground. She will respect you. And you will respect yourself (which is more important).
Just be polite, honest, and direct. She is free to disagree all she wants. But don't raise your voice- it shows you have lost control , and don't be seeking/needing her approval.

Basically, if you allow her full access, your cheating will be revealed. This is a cash burning activity that can quickly run into tens of thousands in any given year. Without anything tangible, it will raise some very serious questions about the missing monies. Joining the gamblers anonymous will be the last resort.

Actually she wants to have access to my personal account so she can manage my rrsp and tfsa portfolio. She is actually doing pretty well making money with her investment portfolio during the covid so she wants to make money in my investment portfolio..We have it all setup thur TD easy web so she will need my td personal account password to access td easy web and td trade.
I would use cash back from purchases then. $20 here and there. Always throw out the receipt. And don’t use it when just buying milk. LOL.

Gas is a good one.

Also, get a new hobby. Golf is a good fake one. Just make sure to buy some
Cheap equipment.

Or as stated, take out the same cash every week and have some of that go to a hobby fund.

Get a safety box for the car, with jumper cables and shit, put your hobby money there. If she asks, it is emergency money. Towing can cost alot in cash now-a-days. You can easily get away with a Couple hundred there. Always keep a hundred for emergencies in your wallet and there you go. You will always have hobby money.

Thanks for all the tips and advices. I have decided to give wife my main personal account password. But I will open another account as day trading account by myself. I will put few thousands in this account to trade high risk assets as cover up for hobbling account.

In the mean time during the pandemic when I do not hobby much, I will use the following to stash up cash

-cash back using credit card to stash cash
-cash advance using credit card
-Pick up expensive hobby and use cash to pay
-do more buy and sell transactions on kijiji
-starting having few hundreds bill in my wallet
-i drive tesla so needing cash for gas is out of question
-anything else?

Or as a good friend told me just keep the cash piled up in your pants front pocket. When you reached escort level while married it's been probably a few years since your wife visited that area ;)

Something seems off. Another person called the OP out about varying reasons from his first post. If he suspected anything at all, would he really be stating actual brands of banks and cars in a forum his wife could have easily found? Actually, if he wanted to be horrible, he would out a former friend this way by pointing that guy's wife to all this... Bank and car brands need not be mentioned. Sorry, it can only hinder, not help.

The power of saying no can be deadly, or even damaging. This is one reason you have to vet the women you let in your life. Any woman (or any person) who throws a tantrum when they are told no, is not someone you want to be with.

First of all. Me and my wife have joint bank account that we both have access to. I allow my wife to view my personal bank whenever she wants to upon my discretion (i.e. I show her the statement). But now she is asking to have password to access my bank account. Her reason is that she felt more secure to have access herself. She is not a big spender. In fact she spend less money than me. My question is...

is there Alternative way to cover cash trail for hobby? or is it always best to have a sperate personal account that I can only access to ? How do you married guys do it?
Separate account, mine is set up as paperless never does anything come to the house, statements etc.

Fishing >>> Golf...plus you need to purchase lures and baits constantly...

Gathering evidence.
Be aware that if your bank account is hacked and you have shared your password with anyone, then the bank will wash its hands and the loss is yours. Hacking is way up since the onset of this pandemic. They have lots of ways of getting in.
Also, be aware that swapping $ back and forth between spouses is technically offside with CRA.
Not sure if they can track it but the regulators would be very stern if they find an unlicensed person trading in another person's account, even if it is a spouse.

Tell her “No” because you find it insulting that she doesn’t trust you...not to mention intrusive and controlling.
Lol Kind of twisted when you think about it, considering she has good reason not to trust you.

I read a while back about someone who would pocket $20-25 each time he filled his gas tank (perhaps via cash back?) and when he accumulated enough to see his favorite girl, he did just that, with the wife never catching on.
