What is your favourite winter beers?

So far, this season, my 3 favourites are

1) Dirty Squirrel
(Phillips Brewery)
The Dirty Squirrel is back, full of hazelnut flavours. Look for him in his native habitat (liquor stores). Limited availability - Alcohol 5%

- Tastes sort of like Ferero Rocher - with a pleasant hazlenut aroma

2) Father John's Winter Ale
(Howe Sound Brewery)
Father John’s Christmas Ale
8% alc./vol.

A strong, sweet, mildly spiced dark ale brewed every winter in honour of our original brewer John Mitchell.

I love the bottles from this brewery.. they are the old, large (1L) "pot stopper" bottles which are resealable!.. also has a very pleasant aroma!... about $8.00-$9.00 / bottle

3) Sleemans Fine Porter

I just got back from the liquor store with a couple more bottles of Father John's!!

It is great with the private liquor stores... open 365 days a year!!

Most of these (except Sleeman's) are available by the bottle, or a 6 pack

I am thinking tomorrow, I may pick up a couple bottles of dopplebach.... I have never tried that style beer before

I don't think you can find any Upper Canada in bottles anymore. They did make a killer Bock and an even better Oktoberfest Lager.

Has anyone tried the Mill Street Barley Wine in the 500 ml ceramic bottles?

Wow! 10% alcohol and sips like a port or sherry. Lots os sweet notes like molasses and currents.

The 2007 Fuller's Vintage Ale is very good. I bought a case of the 2006 and you can cellar it. It actually improves with age. Tasty!

Philips from out west makes really, really good beer. They have an IPA that is right up there with Sierra Nevada as the gold standard IPA.

Ever since Sleeman bought out the Upper Canada brand, they have become harder and harder to find... They used to have some great seasonal beers!

Favourite winter beer? Hmm - maybe Maudite. Love the 750ml bottle with the cork!
